This item was donated by Sapper John Victor Ricardo (3794162) who was a National Serviceman and was with the Royal Australian Engineers. He served in Vietnam with 21 Engineer Support Troop from march 1969 to March 1970.
The Australian Red Cross Society did a wonderful job in assisting our veterans. In this case they had contacted the veterans wife and parents to let them know how he was after he had been hurt, and relayed messages from them. This meant a lot to the veteran and his family because there was little advice given by the Department of Defence, except for an initial telegram.An Australian Red Cross telegram to John from his wife and parents.
