Huddart Parker traded between 1876 and 1961. It was established in 1876 by James Huddart, T.J. Parker, John Traill and Captain T. Webb. The business rapidly expanded and was travelling between Melbourne and Sydney by 1882 and Melbourne to Adelaide from 1886. The Company was established in Geelong but moved its offices to Melbourne by 1890. It is likely this saucer was used on the Huddart Parker shipping line some time between 1876 and 1961. Historically, the early establishment of the company in Geelong is significant for the region. Benson sold part of the collection to the V.M.C who purchased the remaining part. It is a great source of information to visitors to the V.M.C. These photographs of a presentation to a charity organisation were taken in the grounds of Fortuna Villa, Army Survey Regiment in 1984. SPR Tracy (Parker) Ash was the unit’s Miss Golden North section entrant in the Miss Australia Quest. MAJ Bob Roche, RSM Bob Mason and SPR Parker presented a fundraising cheque to the unidentified representative from the Spastic Society. The the newspaper article is from the Bendigo Advertiser. The following wording is taken from the article: ‘Tracy Parker is a sapper in the Army, and a cartographic technician stationed at Fortuna, Bendigo. Originally from Melbourne, Tracy, 23, is the latest entrant in the Miss Golden North segment of the Miss Australia Quest. The highlight of Tracy’s quest will be an open day at Fortuna, once the magnificent home of Bendigo’s Quartz King, George Lansell. This open day at Fortuna, on Sunday, August 26, between 10 am and 4 pm, will give district residents a rare opportunity of inspecting this magnificent building and its gardens. Tracy said there will be handicrafts, rides, competitions and refreshments available at the open day. The main attraction, apart from the building and gardens, would be a hot air balloon. Admission to the open day would be: Adults $2, children and pensioners $1, family party $5. All proceeds from the open day at Fortuna will go to the Spastic Society. Tracy, like all other Miss Australia candidates work hard for the Spastic Society in fundraising activities. Getting further involved in fundraising, Tracy and her strong committee have organised a 6km fun run for Sunday August 19. Entry forms are available at Bendigo sports stores, and at the end of the fun run will be a barbecue. Apart from her vocation in the Army, and fundraising for the Spastic Society, Tracy Parker has a great love of horses, and associated activities of riding, jumping and showing her horses. Robin Kelly was born Robin Vandersluys in Mary Street, Kew. As a child, she sang in backyard concerts run with her brother, Leslie. The family moved to Deepdene in 1949 and Robin joined church and school choirs. Later she was to study classical singing with Stella Power, modern singing with Jack White, TV Presentation with Natalie Raine of Crawford Productions and acting/singing with Jessie Matthews. Following her victory in a talent quest at the Orama Ballroom, she was invited to join the Orama Big Band with singers Harry Cox and Arlene Forrest. She also sang with the Kerm Jones Jazz Band at Power House and with Frank Johnson's Jazz Band at Jazz Junction. Robin became resident band vocalist at the historic Federal Hotel in Collins Street with the Rudi Laquer Trio. She also sang at The Savoy Plaza with the George Cadman Trio. A year later she became resident vocalist at the Ress Oriental Hotel with the Lennie Holmes Trio. Later, Robin married pianist Peter Jones, singing under the name 'Robin Vanser' in clubs in Sydney and regional New South Wales. She was booked for a Vietnam War tour and also sang in Tahiti. Returning to Melbourne, her agent booked her to appear in shows in Tasmania including West Point Casino and Melbourne country venues. Another agent, John Bishop, booked her to do floor shows in Melbourne, including Xmas Seasons at the Hampton Hotel where she entertained audiences with her comedy and audience participation routines. In 1971, Robin Kelly retired to run her Robin Hood Antiques business in Canterbury, during which time she was married to tenor Glenn Kelly. Later she joined Sing Australia Camberwell Choir, performing as a soloist at their Melbourne Town Hall Concert.The Vandersluys-Kelly Collection of photographs, costumes and musical performance memorabilia was donated to the Kew Historical Society by Robin Denise Kelly in 2018. The collection is an important record of stage and recorded performances in Australia in the second half of the 20th century. This new nationally-focused and artistically significant collection augments and contextualises the local performing arts materials in our collection. This copper penny token was issued in Geelong by ironmonger R. Parker. Richard Parker was an early settler in Victoria. He had a general store in Elizabeth Street, then Collins Street, Melbourne for five years before moving to Geelong in 1844. He soon established several branches of his ironmonger business in towns around Victoria. He encouraged trade by providing customers with the small change of penny tokens in exchange for their more valuable and less convenient silver coins. The token carried a surcharge and was overstamped with the mane of W. Kernot. William Charles Kernot was a chemist at Chillwell, Geelong. The token is of historical significance, representing a form of currency used in Australia's colonial era before Australia had official currency.Token coin; a round copper one penny token. Obverse had promotional text and a sketch and was overstamped with a name. Reverse had the image of a woman holding up a set of balance scales in one hand and a cornucopia in the other, standing beside the sea, with a three-masted sailing ship in the background, There is a formed hole in the metal; on the obverse, it is on the top of the design, on the reverse it is on the bottom of the design. It advertises R. Parker, Ironmonger, Moorabool Street, Geelong, overstamped with the name W. Kernot.Embossed on the obverse: "R. PARKER / IRONMONGER. / MOORABOOL STREET / GEELONG" "W. The Parker Bros Auto Company was established in 1927 in Liebig Street, with the business selling Chevrolet cars and used cars and later becoming the original Holden dealer in Warrnambool. The company employed a large staff with show rooms, a workshop, a panel shop, and a spare parts section. In 1968 the business relocated to 109 Lava Street and was still operating in the 1980s.This key ring holder is of great interest as a souvenir of Parker Bros. Auto Co, a prominent business in Warrnambool for over 50 years.This is a brown leather key holder issued as an advertising feature by Parker Bros Auto Co. Warrnambool. The key holder is folded over to include a metal bottle opener which is held to the leather with a metal stud and a metal press stud enables the holder to be locked shut. Kith Kiln was the site of a short lived charcoal kiln designed to provide an alternative to petrol during World War 11 when there was a fuel shortage. Local history has been told by Genseric (Bill) Parker and the reflections collected by Friends of Kirth Kiln (under the auspices of Parks Victoria).The booklet is significant because it tells the story of the development of the Kirth Kiln Park in Gembrook, from the Friends perspective.The park is not only historical but is also of great environmental significance and it forms part of community life in the district. The Wodonga Historical Society Haeusler Collection provides invaluable insight into life in late nineteenth and early twentieth century north east Victoria. The collection comprises manuscripts, personal artefacts used by the Haeusler family on their farm in Wodonga, and a set of glass negatives which offer a unique visual snapshot of the domestic and social lives of the Haeusler family and local Wodonga community. The Haeusler family migrated from Prussia (Germany) to South Australia in the 1840s and 1850s, before purchasing 100 acres of Crown Land made available under the Victorian Lands Act 1862 (also known as ‘Duffy’s Land Act’) in 1866 in what is now Wodonga West. The Haeusler family were one of several German families to migrate from South Australia to Wodonga in the 1860s. This digital image was produced from one of the glass negatives that form part of the collection, probably taken by Louis Haeusler (b.1887) with the photographic equipment in the Wodonga Historical Society Haeusler Collection. Parker Family - Samuel Skelton Parker, Jack Parker’s father, migrated to Australia from Ballymena, Country Antrim, Ireland in 1884. He married Bridget Cusack from County Clare in 1883. They had children William, James, Jack, Samuel and Rachel. After working on a station in northern NSW, they moved to Barnawartha and set up a butchery and later a bakery. In 1890 the family moved to Wodonga, buying a property in West Wodonga, which he called “Park Hall” after his home in Ireland. The property is now the location of the Wodonga Golf Club in Parkers Road, West Wodonga.This item is unique and has well documented provenance and a known owner. It forms part of a significant and representative historical collection which reflects the local history of Wodonga. It contributes to our understanding of domestic and family life in early twentieth century Wodonga, as well as providing interpretative capacity for themes including local history and social history.Digital image created from the Haeusler Glass negative collection.
