This building was damaged by fire and was subsequently demolished before June 1983. From 1901-1917 it was the site of the Surrey Hills Post Office. In later years the part of the building with frontage to Windsor Crescent was used as the dental surgery of Dr David Ellis; the Union Road part of the building was occupied by a barber and tobacconist for many years. At the time of the fire the building was used by a business supplying hydroponics requirements. This moved to (?) 119 Highbury Road, Burwood.The image is significant because it documents a building which was an important community facility which no longer exists.Black and white photo of a single-storey corner building with a corrugated iron roofed veranda and a single, 4-panel timber door. There is a sign with '109' mounted on the veranda of the building. There are multiple advertising signs on the walls of the building. Fire at the building on 22 August 1981. The building was constructed in 1912 as a block of flats, designed and built by JRDaley, and it was renovated in the 1930s. British born artist John Wolseley relocated to Australia in 1976, where he travelled extensively through the outback mainly recording the natural history of remote north Australia in large, minutely detailed paintings. Since 2009, he has travelled to Darwin annually to continue his exploration of the Top End, visiting Arnhem Land and Daly River to work with Indigenous artists to research and capture the detail and essence of particular landscapes. His works reflect how landscape can be thought of as fields of energy in which plant forms move or dance with rhythmic life. After The Fire - Leaf Surge represents the vibrant regrowth of new foliage emerging from a landscape recently ravaged by fire.

Damage to the Eltham Christian School after a fire, 10 October 1989 The Stokes family settled in this area of Eltham in the 1940s and were associated with the Eltham Christian Church. In the 1970s this church had met in temporary premises in Eltham. Lots of the original 1920s subdivision remained south of Nyora Road and a number of these lots were utilized for the Eltham Christian School, which was established by the Eltham Christian Church in 1981. The school operated on this site until 2000. The premises were owned by the Nillumbik Community Church who were in operation till November 2010 when the Eltham Baptist Church commenced a lease arrangement until the site was purchased by them in April 2012. The building is constructed of brick and timber with a balcony on two sides that looks over an expanse of grass. Since moving on from tonal pen and pencil work many years ago watercolour has been my medium preference for painting Flora and Fauna. Although better known for my Australian bird studies I do like to portray remnant grassland featuring the terrestrial orchids that occur there. As a Forest Officer for the past 40 odd years working in and around the Grampians area I have been blessed with the opportunity to observe and study much of the wildlife of the area. If you can imagine a peregrine falcon swooping down from a ledge, echidna playing trains, goanna striding to a tree or a sittella placing shingles on the nest This has been much of my life as a forester and artist. This work is one of a number painted by the artist after bushfires in the Grampians. Roger Edwards was a Forest Officer, posted to Cavendish, in SW corner of the Grampians, in 1975. In the 1980s he photographed details of the wildflowers and their recovery after fire. The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' On 1 April 1991, fire gutted the Town Hall. Arson was suspected. The municipal art collection then valued at $800,000 was lost, including Rupert Bunny’s The Forerunners, itself valued at $250,000. Community support was immediate for Mayor Melanie Eagle and her team, and a foundation stone for rebuilding was laid only a year later by Sir Zelman Cowen.
