By 1901 a new business, John Alderdice and Co., was established by the Downings in a building previously housing a cordial factory. 84 Henna Street, where it operates to this day. The name Alderdice, still in use today, comes from the name of the original major shareholder, John Alderdice who worked for the company for five years.
