Nails such as these were used for building purposes, probably in the construction of house and shed roofs. The jar has no significance, being a discarded household item used to contain the nails. The nails have no known local provenance but are of interest as they date back over 100 years and are retained to show the type of nails used in the past.This is a glass jar with a ridged base and a metal screw top lid. There is etched printing on one side of the jar. The jar contains many old metal nails, possibly handmade. They are mostly rectangular in shape with flattened heads.
