Many young men, both Ithacan born and Australian born of Ithacan descent joined the Australian Defence Forces in various capacities during World War 2. These packs were Australian army issue to service men and women during World War 2.Many Orbost men served in World War 2. Three field dressing packs made from cloth or waterproof covering and with a black printed label on one side of each pack. The words FIRST FIELD DRESSING and instructions TO OPEN and CONTENTS are printed on each pack. On the bottom of the print area are JOHNSON & JOHNSON PTY LTD, SYDNEY. Young Greek born men who had migrated to Australia were recruited to the defence forces during World War 2. Pictured is a group belonging to Civilian Military Forces. Standing, second from the right, is Nakis (Nick) Raftopoulos.During the period of the second world war, Ithacans who were unnaturalised were recruited into the Civilian Military Forces as 'Allied Aliens' and served the war effort on the home front. Discovered in 2003 when owner, Ken Gray, of Tatura, noticed the covering paper peeling away on the wall of a galvanised iron shed on his property. He believed the shed was bought at the internment camp 4 auction conducted by the Commonwealth Government in the early 1950's and transported to the property which he now owns.Cartoon like painting depicting men (army garrison soldiers) playing billiards. General Service Medal 1962 with clasp 'South Vietnam'. Awarded to Army and Air Force for service of 30 days or more, not necessarily continuous , in South Vietnam between December 1962 and May 1964 inclusive, or one sortie or more into South Vietnam by RAAF air crew personnel in direct support of operations. Members of accredited philanthropic organisations serving with the Army - the Australian Red Cross, Salvation Army, Young Men's Christian Association and Campaigners for Christ - were also eligible.
