It has a white face with black markings and Roman numerals and a gauge around the outer circle with numbers from 0 to 300. The face is covered with a glass frame. One hand and its pin are loose in the glass. The watch case is gold-coloured with a heavy ornamental pattern around the sides. At the top of the case is a ring for attaching the watch to a chain or belt. This set is of considerable interest as it was presented to Horace Lawson, notable in Warrnambool’s history as a long-serving and successful Town Clerk. horace lawson history of warrnambool silver tea set ‘W. ...This set was given by the Warrnambool City Council Councillors to Horace Lawson on the occasion of his marriage in 1898. Horace Edward Lawson was the son of Susan and Thomas Lawson. The latter at one time had a drapery business in Liebig Street. Horace Lawson was the Town Clerk of Warrnambool from 1893 to 1918. He was a keen cyclist and a member of the Warrnambool Volunteer Artillery Corps. In 1918 Lawson was appointed the Secretary of the Municipal Association of Victoria, a Melbourne appointment. This set is of considerable interest as it was presented to Horace Lawson, notable in Warrnambool’s history as a long-serving and successful Town Clerk. This silver-plated tea and coffee set has four items – coffee pot, tea pot, sugar basin and milk jug. All have the same etched decorative patterns on the sides and the lids and all have handles attached with a nut and a bolt. The tea pot and the coffee pot have the maker’s marks on the bases and there is an inscription on the side of the sugar basin. The lids of the coffee pot, tea pot and milk jug are hinged. ‘W. The binoculars are attached to the tripod via a circular metal base plate with a small levelling bubble on the surface. The base plate is marked in degrees from zero to 360. Between each lens tube is an aiming device. The top of the tripod has a winding mechanism for raising and lowering the height of the binoculars. On the right hand side of the binoculars is a marked gauge which allows them to be tilted at different angles of elevation. Each of the eyepieces is able to be adjusted to fit the user's face. On 7 August 2005 the Regiment, with due ceremony, presented these guidons to the Trustees of the Shrine of Remembrance to be laid up in the Shrine. The activity also commemorated the charge at The Nek during the Gallipoli campaign of World War 1.
