Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. was a North American jewellery company that was established in 1949 by the Stuart family as part of Emmons Jewelry, Inc. It began operations in England and Australia in 1968, and in Australia it moved from Carlton in Melbourne to Wodonga in 1969. The premises were originally on High Street in Wodonga, but a new warehouse was built in Melbourne Road later in 1969. It was a direct selling jewellery business using a party-plan model similar to Tupperware and Avon. The sales reps or 'Hostesses' were provided with jewellery samples in demonstration kits, which they displayed at jewellery parties in their homes. The designs for jewellery such as brooches, necklaces, earrings, chokers and bracelets were purchased from freelance designers and jewellery manufacturers rather than in-house designers. In 1979 Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. in Wodonga was bought by three Australian businessmen, including Wodonga local Jim Sawyer, and continued to sell jewellery under the name "Sargem Pty. Ltd”, for several more years in the 1980s. As part of the Sarah Coventry collection, the "Astrology Zodiac Cancer the Crab" necklace has local significance with the decentralised commercial development of regional centres such as Wodonga in NE Victoria, as well as national and international significance from the perspective of social and economic developments for women after World War II. The direct selling party-plan business model Sarah Coventry was based on is also considered the first of its kind for jewellery.Aztec/Mayan style pendant design, featuring alternating crabs and masks on a long, looped silver toned chain. The Tibetan astrological calendar is a lunisolar calendar composed of either 12 or 13 lunar months, each beginning and ending with a new moon. A thirteenth month is added every two or three years, so that an average Tibetan year is equal to the solar year. The Tibetan astrological calendar has roots in the Indian calendar system and has been in use for over a thousand years. The Tibetan calendar is an important tool for determining auspicious dates and times and for making predictions about future events. The calendar is an essential aspect of Tibetan identity and culture and continues to be used and revered to this day. This ornate copper disk represents the traditional Tibetan astrological calendar (called Phukpa) based on a 60-year cycle where each year is associated with an animal and an element. The central figure is surrounded by eight trigrams (known as Parkhas), featuring one of the four seasons and four cardinal directions. The middle circle depicts 12 zodiac animals: the mouse, ox, tiger, hare, dragon, serpent, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. astrological calendars (almanacs), amulets

‘In the Tracks of Hercules’ was a multi-media visual and performing arts event in London in December 2005, transforming this ancient hero into a spiritual trail-blazer for our time. The Lucis Trust, London, as part of its educational outreach sponsored this exhibition at the Wathen Hall and Lennox Gallery. The Lucis Trust is an educational charity which promotes an understanding of spiritual values and principles and works towards right human relationships. Alice Bailey in her book ‘The Labours of Hercules’ an astrological interpretation, links Hercules’ journey through the labours, with the twelve signs of the zodiac. The guidelines of the exhibition called for works of art, music, poetry, dance and prose that would encapsulate the great leap of imagination that Hercules faced at each stage of his journey to reach the highest expression of who he was. At the start of his journey through the twelve labours, the ancient story tells us “Minerva handed him a robe, woven by herself, a robe that fitted well, of beauty rare and fine. He put it on with triumph and with pride, exalting in his youth, he had to prove himself” (The Labours of Hercules, by A Bailey). The robe impressed upon him a sense of vocation. Our group, the Aquarian Esoteric Group, was studying Baily’s book early in 2005 and with so much creative ability in our group, my vision was to blend our many talents and create ‘Minerva’s Robe’. The Lucis Trust accepted our suggestion for the robe as an entry to the exhibition and the enthusiasm, creativity and joy that followed amazed us all. Inspired at each stage by one of us, with particular skills needed, knitting, felting, beading, dressmaking and copper engraving. It truly became the 13th labour of love! The robe was exhibited in the foyer at the performing arts and then at the visual arts exhibition. Now it has returned to Melbourne we feel it’s journey should continue as a gift to the National Wool Museum, Geelong, for future exhibitions we hope it will inspire the spirit of group endeavour to continue in our country and in the world. We believe in this lies the vision for humanity. - Anne Heywood, on behalf of the Aquarian Esoteric Group 'Minerva's Robe' is a large hand knitted and felted garment decorated with beads, yarn twists and copper discs. The Megalithic Passage Tombs of Newgrange, Knowth, Dowth, Fourknocks, Loughcrew and Tara are located in the present day County Meath in Ireland's Ancient East. The Boyne Valley Mounds at Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth were built around 3200BC making them older than Stonehenge in England and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Built by Neolithic farming communities about 5000 years ago, the passage tombs have clear astronomical alignments such as the Winter Solstice Sunrise at Newgrange and the Equinox Sunrise at Loughcrew. Judging from the splendour and magnificence of Newgrange and Knowth it is likely that these temples of the ancestors were places of astrological, spiritual, religious and ceremonial importance, much as present day cathedrals are places of worship where dignitaries may be laid to rest. There is a lively debate about whether these wonderful megalithic structures were built primarily as burial tombs, sacred temples or astronomical observatories. While passage tomb is the traditional description for Newgrange and similar structures, chambered cairn or passage mound are the descriptions favoured by those who consider the passage tomb description too narrow. The large stones surrounding and inside the Passage Tombs are decorated with Megalithic Art such as spirals, concentric circles, triangles, zigzags and images which have been interpreted as the sun, moon and the human face. Irish passage tombs tend to occur in clusters traditionally described as a Necropolis or cemetery. The Boyne cluster includes Newgrange, Knowth, Dowth and Townleyhall. The other great clusters in County Meath are on the hills around Loughcrew. The ancient Boyne Valley passage tomb mounds at Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth have been designated World Heritage Site status by UNESCO and attract 200,000 visitors per year. The sites and Visitor Centre are managed by the OPW (Office of Public Works). Newgrange is best known for the illumination of its passage and chamber by the winter solstice sun. The site is open to the public with controlled access to the passage and chamber. Tours of Newgrange start at the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre located near the village of Donore, Co. Meath. Knowth has two passages and is surrounded by seventeen satellite cairns. The site is open to the public; however there is no public access to the interior passages and chambers. Tours of Knowth also start at the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre. Dowth is the only one of the three large Brú na Bóinne Passage Tombs which is not accessible from the Visitor Centre situated on the south bank of the river. Visitors to Dowth must drive directly to the site on the north bank, a couple of miles from the Slane / Drogheda road. Fourknocks with its short passage leading into a wide pear shaped chamber is in similar style to Tombs in Portugal. Just inside the main chamber to the left of the entrance is one of the few representations of a human face from the Neolithic Period in ancient Ireland.
