The event was organised to support soprano Joanna Cole as the Australian representative at the "Singer of the World" competition to be held in Cardiff, Wales in June 1993. This large presentation booklet was commissioned by The Australian Opera to mark the Company's first season in the Sydney Opera House. There is a forward by Mr Gough Whitlam, Prime Minister of Australia. The Sydney Opera House officially opened on 20th October 1973.

Patricia Boyd was on the Board of the Australia Opera for several years. The Walsh St house holds a significant collection of opera recordings. Penleigh Boyd wrote this in The Age obituary to Dorothea Patricia Davies AM (3 Jan 1921-5 Nov 2009). "In 1988, Patricia was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for her service to opera involving many years of voluntary work on the board of the Australian Opera - work which she greatly enjoyed involving travel, music and meeting many interesting and entertaining people. She was also a life member and former president of the National Gallery of Victoria Women's Association." Opera Australia and QPAC and Events Queensland presented operas to Brisbane audiences from 26 May - 9 June 2012 at Lyric Theatre, QPAC. Jacqueline Dark performed Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night's Dream, a Benjamin Britten opera. Words by William Shakespeare. It opened on June 1, 5, and 7 with matinees at 1pm on June 9.
