'Digger' The Australian Serviceman Document ...Advertising for a sculpture of an Australian Digger that was produced as a commemorative piece by a Melbourne firm called Ceramic Innovations. It is filled with Tawny Port and is part of a wider set of bar pieces. The three pieces held at Melbourne Legacy are tributes to the three armed forces and are called 'Digger', 'RAAFIE' and 'Jack Tar'. They were once in the comradeship room and now stored in the archive. An advertising flyer found shows the RRP was $110 with $5 of each 'Digger' being donated to Legacy Australia. There was a special price for Legacy members of $78.95 so this brochure may have been distributed with the Answer or Bulletin. He was born on 28 March 1945 in North Adelaide, an only child. As an adult, Noack worked as a tuna fisherman. He was a committed Lutheran. Noack was among the first intake of national servicemen to be enlisted on 30 June 1965. He did not welcome being called up, but 'decided to make the most of it'. Noack was posted as a rifleman to the newly raised 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR) based at holsworthy, New South Wales. A small statuette depicting a World War 1 Australian... depicting a World War 1 Australian serviceman assisting a wounded ...John Simpson Kirkpatrick enlisted in the Australian Army Medical Corps serving as a stretcher bearer at Gallipoli. With the help of a donkey he recovered wounded from the battlefield, often under fire. He was killed in action on 19 May 1915 and was awarded a Mention in Despatches for his act of bravery.Simpson and his donkey has become the most famous of the images arising from Australia's Gallipoli Campaign in the First World WarA small statuette depicting a World War 1 Australian serviceman assisting a wounded comrade who is riding on a donkey. This statuette is made from pewter and symbolises the brave deeds of Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick who, during the early days of the Gallipoli campaign, similarly assisted a number of wounded servicemen. This Army Medical Corps serviceman was a stretcher bearer and commonly known as "Simpson". The statuette is mounted on a stained wooden base which has a small title plate at its front edge.Title plate inscribed "SIMPSON AND HIS DONKEY" -

Clancy... by the family of WWll Australian Army serviceman James Robert Clancy ...The recipient of this medal is believed to be VX44669 Private James Robert Clancy of Thougla Upper which was in the Shire of Upper Murray. Private Clancy was born in Sandy Creek on 30 August 1903 enlisted in the Army on 8 July 1940 and was discharged on 8 March 1943. He served in the Signals Section of the 2nd Australian Anti-Aircraft Regiment.Municipalities in Australia recognised their residents who enlisted in World Wars by the issue of some form of recognition. This is a nice example of a medallic form of such recognition.A collection of items presented by the family of WWll Australian Army serviceman James Robert Clancy VX44669. Khaki-coloured slouch hat with folded cotton band with blue strip around brim; gold coloured badge depicting a wreath with crown atop and ornamental letters “RAAF”. Four plastic eyelets at crow of hat and signature fold on crown. Wide brim edged with brown coloured binding. A hook on the left crown and left brim attach together to lift one side of the hat. On interior, brown leather chinstrap with metal adjustable buckle ad black leather sweatband stitched in with zig-zag black stitching and secured by khaki silk bow at back. Bow attaches a card reading “58” in a circle. Sticker on interior centre in brown and metallic gold. Size sticker hidden underneath sweatband reads “58 7 1/8”Label on interior of cotton band reads “A.G.C.F./VIC 1989 [broad arrow]/SIZE. 58/8405-66.[crossed out 109-5392]033-5309”. These used brass ...Pair of trench art candle holders made from Japanese type 96, 25 mm anti aircraft gun ammunition casings. Presumably souvenired by an Australian serviceman during World War ll. These used brass cartridges have been lightly etched or engraved with typical New Guinea designs and the lettering "LAE" and "1943-4". The type 96 was a Japanese built variant of the French Hotchkiss 25mm anti-aircraft gun. The type 96 was designed as a dual-purpose weapon for use against armored vehicles and aircraft, but was primarily used as an anti-aircraft gun in fixed mounts of one to three guns on Imperial Japanese Naval vessels.The cartridges are engraved with typical New Guinea scenes and the word "LAE", one has the date "1943-4".
