This item is a souvenir of the Bi- Centenary of Australia (1988) It features the new Parliament House in Canberra which was opened in May 1988 and cost more than one billion dollars to build and contains four thousand seven hundred rooms. This item came from the estate of a well known Warrnambool lawyer and is retained as a high quality souvenir of the Bi-Centenary of AustraliaCircular ceramic plate. White concave surface with blue drawing of Parliament House, Australian Coat of Arms, flowers including banksia, Sturt Desert Pea, eucalypt and seven pointed stars. The Bicentenary Education medal was produced by the Australian Bicentennial Authority as a memento for distribution to all school students in Australia in 1988. One of the many medals struck to commemorate 200 years of European settlement in Australia and distributed to all school students as part of bicentennial celebrations. This package being that of Glen Taffe of Hymettus Cottage.Cupro-nickel medal commissioned by the Commonwealth of Australia to commemorate the Australian Bicentenary in 1988. The medal was designed by Michael Meszaros and M. Tracey and minted by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra. The obverse was designed by Melbourne artist Michael Meszaros and depicts school children climbing steps with the Southern Cross in the sky and the word 'EDUCATION' below. The reverse, designed by M. Tracey, features the Bicentennial logo, a map of Australia formed by intersecting diagonal lines. The medal was presented to school children in a sealed sleeve with Bicentenary artwork to commemorate the Bicentenary in 1988australian bi-centenary, education, commonwealth of australia
