Leather suitcase owned by Matron "Trix" Moore, when she served in the Australian Army during WW2. Matron "Trix" Moore was the first Matron at 28 Camp Hospital, attached to Internment Camp 1. Rescued by Les Kelly from a council nature strip rubbish collection in Mentone.Leather, stitching around edges. Metal studs on base/rear. Metal clasps, locks & attachment for leather handle. Inner leather straps retaining lid of suitcase to bottom, straps secured by metal studs at top & staples at bottom. Metal studs & brackets/ guards on corners.(Both on front): B. Designed and constructed in Camp 1 by an internee who was an engineer & used scrap metal and inprovised tools. Jack Weber had previously migrated to Queensland, later interned in 1939.Attachment for loom, shaft or rack of taut comb like metal wires embedded each side into wooden rods. Herr Alois Murr, trouble shooter, Lanz Tractors prior to war, was subsequently interned, then released, became a citizen of Australia. Drawings of the single cylinder were donated by Stephen Larcombe "Pinebrow" Reservoir Road, Pettarel 3216. Written by Hilde Knorr. The history and love story of Hans and Hilde Knorr. Hans was an Australian from South Africa. He survived the "Arandora Star" sinking, was on the Dunera, was in Camp 1 as an internee, then POW Camp 13, when rules changed. Approved to stay in Australia after release. Creator Walter Kiessling was interned in September 1939, leaving his pregnant wife, Rosa, alone in Melbourne. After visiting Walter in Dhurringile Interment Camp and then Camp 1, wife Rosa then appealed to Camp 1 Commandant Major Schrader for permission to have Walter visit her and the baby in hospital under guard escort. Soon after, permission was given to take the baby to Camp 1 for a christening with a Lutheran Pastor.
