Each has a hole in the base to enable it to be checked that it was empty prior to use or after being used. One of the 3d containers have a loose "washer" which shows the nature of the construction. Has been secured with a piece of wrapping tape. One of the 6d tubes has a label advising that it would hold "$30 of $2 coins"Demonstrates the methodologies used to count coins and stack them in a revenue office. Orbost Aero Club began in 1969 with Basil Dowie as Chair, David Nixon as Secretary/Treasurer. The group went into recess from 1977-1991 closing in 1997. The mid 1960s were boom years in flying training in Australia and the number of Aero Clubs grew rapidly. The Club played a significant role in the establishment of the small airport at Marlo and in the ongoing operation and development of the airport over the years particularly for patient transfer by aerial ambulance. Container, Silver coin container, 1910
This item would have been owned by a man with some wealth as the silver hallmarks indicate an expensive purchase. Coin containers were used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a means of carrying some cash on the person and the matches holder was also a common item for men to carry.This item has no known local provenance but is useful as an example of social customs of the past and can be used also for display. This is a silver container divided into two sections – the top part with a hinged lid held wax matches and the bottom section has a circular recess for holding silver coins. This bottom section has a hinged lid. The top part has an indented and serrated part for striking the matches. The container is highly decorated in etched patterns with a space to engrave a person’s initials. The top has a ring with a chain for attaching the item to a chain. The container is slightly dented. The folded sections of steel would have allowed it fit into a cash bag or holder. The number "60" has been stamped into the lower section of the steel section - see image 3. Has been fitted with a coin dispenser (screw and bolted in) for six different coins (50c, 20c, 10c, 5c, 2c, and 1c). Circulated between 1966 and 1984, the one dollar bank note was issued following Australia's switch to decimal currency. It was later replaced by the dollar coin. Legal tender throughout the Commonwealth of Australia and the territories of the Commonwealth. Issued by the Reserve Bank of Australia, with the signatures of both the Governor of the Reserve Bank (J.G.Phillips), and the Secretary to the Treasury (R.J.Randall) noted on the obverse. Australian one dollar notes carry individual serial numbers.Demonstrates the one dollar note as it was circulated in Australia between 1966 and 1984. Circulated between 1966 and 1988, the two dollar bank note was issued by the Reserve Bank of Australia following Australia's switch to decimal currency. It was later replaced by the two dollar coin. Functional object - Fare Tokens - 2021
Design based on the Electric Supply Co of Victoria tokens. Used by the Museum as a fare payment mechanism or system. With the use of coins or banknotes being phased out and replaced by digital means, it is not possible for the traditional fare payment system to be demonstrated by conductors or tram crews. Maintains the mechanism or practice of exchanging a "coin" for a tram ticket. Visitors pay an entry fee at the new Museum and are given a token for each person. When ready for a tram ride, each passenger gives the token to the Conductor or Driver who issues a paper ticket. Tokens are: Green - 1/- Adult, blue - 6d - Child, red - 3d - concession, purple 1d - members and guests, and orange - no value - baby or under 4. Also maintains the traditional system of conductors accounting for tokens (or cash) and the number of tickets issued.Demonstrates a fare payment system that maintains a strong interpretative link to traditional methods for visitors.Set of 5 plastic fare tokens used by the Ballarat Tramway Museum manufactured during 2021.
