... Before William Chauvin enlisted he was a carter and lived on Cave Hill Rd Lilydale. William enlisted on July 21,1915 when he was only 23 years old, in the 1st Depot Battalion in Seymour. ...Lilydale RSL Sub Branch 52 Anderson Street Lilydale yarra-valley-and-the-dandenong-ranges Before William Chauvin enlisted he was a carter and lived on Cave Hill Rd Lilydale. ...Before William Chauvin enlisted he was a carter and lived on Cave Hill Rd Lilydale. William enlisted on July 21,1915 when he was only 23 years old, in the 1st Depot Battalion in Seymour. He was then appointed to the 7th Reinforcements, 24th Battalion in Seymour. He embarked from Melbourne on November 20, 1915 on HMAT Commonwealth (A73) He was transferred to the 8th Battalion at Zeitoun, proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force at Alexandria and sailed to Marseilles on the SS Megantic. He was wounded on July 25,1916 and reported wounded and missing on October 4,1916. His death was witnessed by Private GL. Clark and GH Allen. They were under enfilade artillery fire, 400 yards from the Germans, when a shell landed in the trench. William Chauvin was killed instantly. ... Before James Shell was enlisted he was a horse driver living in Cave Hill Rd, Lilydale. He enlisted on October 9, 1915 at the age of 18, to the 21st Battalion. ...Lilydale RSL Sub Branch 52 Anderson Street Lilydale yarra-valley-and-the-dandenong-ranges Before James Shell was enlisted he was a horse driver living in Cave Hill Rd, Lilydale. ...Before James Shell was enlisted he was a horse driver living in Cave Hill Rd, Lilydale. He enlisted on October 9, 1915 at the age of 18, to the 21st Battalion. He embarked with with the10th Reinforcements from Melbourne on March 7,1916 on HMAT Wiltshire (A18) to Serapeum, Egypt. On September 16, 1916 he was transferred to Etaples, France with the 24th Battalion, where he suffered from trench feet. He was sent to the Royal Hospital in Netley to recover. After further training in England, he re-joined his unit. He suffered an abscess and was sent to Cheltenham Hospital in England. He again re-joined his unit. He was awarded three blue stripes as he had been mentioned in dispatches. He returned to Australia o 29th. May 1919 on HT Rio Negro. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He became Shire President for Lillydale in 1883. Also he established a brickworks in Burnley St, Richmond. He was responsible for building PLC College in East Melbourne, Menzies Hotel, The Exhibition building and Scots Church. George recalls originally being located closer to the fence and being ushered up the hill where it was 'safer' to stand. In 1954 at age 27, Queen Elizabeth II was the first reigning British monarch to visit Australia.. She visited Victoria between March 1-10. Where to see the Queen (1954, January 21).
