history of BendigoEdith Perry Collection: The "Prologue" is a 76-page booklet produced by the Bendigo Advertiser on Jan 1951; to celebrate the Centenary of Bendigo 1851 - 1951. The A3 booklet contains stories, sketches, B&W photographs and articles on the development of Bendigo. The printed booklet is supported by several advertisements for a wide range of Bendigo businesses. The booklet is in poor condition as the newspaper printed pages have aged to a yellow appearance, the document is stapled along the spine, there are several tears long the edges of book. The medal was designed by Andor Meszaros and made by K. G. Luke(Medal Makers) of Melbourne, Victoria. This medal was presented to the Shire of Ballarat in 1951 and is now house in the Old Ballarat SHire Building at Learmonth, Victoria.This medal represents the 100 years of "Government in Victoria", also the "Discovery of Gold".A large round bronze medal with a horse bounding left, broken shackles on foreleg, carrying woman holding sword (Justice) and man holding torch (Equality).The front features a man holding a torch and a woman on a horse holding a sword. The horse has a shackle on its front left leg, surrounded by the words "EQUALITY AND JUSTICE THROUGH FREEDOM".
