James Mouat's obituary: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/174256697. James claimed only a few days before his death in June 1893 that 'Bendigo was named after a bullock driver, Jack Langdon, to whom was given the name of 'Bendigo' because he was constantly talking about the pugilistic celebrity and also fancied he was a bit of a 'Bendigo' himself'. Benjamin Heape and Richard Grice, with Charles Sherratt occupied a run of about 118,900 acres, called the Mount Alexander North Run. They set up their head station at what is now Lockwood South on the Bullock Creek and was in the centre of the run.
