Children's Art Show held on Saturday 27th October 1956 at the Ringwood Lower Town Hall. Newspaper article from Ringwood Mail dated 1st November 1956. In attendance was Mr Eric Westbrook, Director of the National Gallery, Cr AJ Lavis, Mayor of Ringwood.

Charlie Chuckles, who, in the early 1940s, presented weekly radio dramatisations of Sunday Telegraph comic strips. It was a great favourite with youngsters throughout the land. Charlie Chuckle commenced in 1941 and ran through until 1954. It was a 30 minute program. Child Welfare Centre (opened 1952) and War Memorial Hall originally built for the Children's Library. Shows the Eltham Shire Office (built 1964) at left of photo.In February 1968 an unknown person took a series of photos from the Eltham Hotel at Pitt Street heading north along Main Road through the shopping centre to just north of Elsa Court covering the length of the section of Main Road which was duplicated shortly thereafter. Shows the condition and environment of the streesscape of Main Road, Eltham immediately prior to the duplication between Pitt Street and Elsa Court through the shopping centre. Ellis Stones, well known landscape designer, designed and supervised the entrance to the Parklands from Rockbeare Grove. He designed a winding path but Council insisted on two straight paths for vehicle access.B&W photograph. Annotated with:[RPCG working bee]. Shows children Phil and Gill Course. This photograph was found in the archive of Newman College, a residential college at the University of Melbourne. It is not currently clear what the connection is between Newman College and the Yallourn School. Was one of the teachers at the school a former resident of Newman? Or did a student from the school come to Newman later in life, bringing this photograph? The town of Yallourn in the La Trobe Valley Victoria no longer exists except in photographs, records and memories. The town was established by the State Electricity Commission from the 1920s to the 1950s and was removed in the 1980s to make way for coal mining.Black and white photograph pasted onto brown mount board.
