This item was donated by L/Cpl Roger Cheal (3791214) who was a National Serviceman and served with the Royal Australian Infantry Corps. He served in Vietnam with the 1st Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment from March 1968 to February 1969A Letter to John Methven from Jill and Roger Cheal Dated April 18, 2001, an Article, Clipping and a copy of a speech their daughter Georgia gave at a forum in Melbourne titled, the Vietnam War & the next generation. In March 2003 military forces of the Coalition of the Willing, including 2,000 men & women of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) invaded Iraq. Since July 2003 working with the interim Iraqi Government, the ADF has continued to contribute to Multinational Force efforts to develop a secure & stable environment in Iraq & assist national recovery programs. The Catalina Club "The enclosed item of military memorabillia is presented to the Waverley Sub-branch of the returned services league by W.F. Lewton, President of the Metropolitan Division of the Piscatorial Council, in appreciation of the services by the sub-branch's anging section. The Lapel badge / tie pin is unique in as much as it depicts the only ex-services organisation granted the privilege of incorporating the Legacy Laural Wreath in it's design. This privilege was granted to our association in recognition of the establishment of an educational trust fund devised and funded by our members in order to educate to tertiary standards the children of personnel who lost their lives in the extreme sacrifice. When the functions of administring the program became too onerous for our members, then, and only then, Legacy undertook to carry the program through to its conclusion.
