The information would be typed or handwritten, then posted and delivered to Legacy Melbourne, Legatees or widows and families. Types of form include 'First Contact Form' to record the details of the families. Also printed cards for noting dental appointments. A typical letter that is sent to the widow on Legacy receiving news of the death of an ex-serviceman. James Cook was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. Cook made detailed maps of Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, during which he achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, and the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand.Cook's 12 years sailing around the Pacific Ocean contributed much to European knowledge of the area. The inscription on the plaque for Bob Brothers reads: 'this sundial and garden court is erected as a memorial and tribute to Bob Brothers, a native of this City of Bendigo. His charity, kindness and comradeship, particularly at Bourke on the Darling River, N.S.W., inspired Henry Lawson to characterise him in the story 'Send around the Hat.' Dr. Roderick is attempting to substantiate Brothers' connection with Bendigo and is 'anxious to contact anyone with authentic records of a Bendigo man, Bob Brothers who was immortalised in a Henry Lawson poem, 'Passing Around the Hat.' Statue presented by Andrew Stenhouse, 3 December 1914. Donated by Mr Andrew Stenhouse, a retired contractor who lived at Beaconsfield Parade, St Kilda, he was interested in the reclamation of the foreshore in front of his dwelling Captain James Cook FRS (1728-1779) was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. During three voyages to the Pacific Ocean he achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, and the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand. He was killed in the Hawaiian Islands in 1779. The statue appears to have been the first monument erected to him in Victoria and is a replica of one in Whitby, England. It was unveiled on Monday December 7th, 1914 by the Governor of Victoria, Sir Arthur Stanley in front of Commonwealth and State dignitaries and hundreds of St Kilda residents. In 2015 Year 1 students began a discussion about colour with the intention of experiencing the magic of mixing colours of their own and then transferring those colours onto a collaborative canvas. The class talked about how the painting was like their class community, how they had begun Prep as individuals and then as they grew their friendships they joined the empty friendship spaces and became a group. This document about the painting states: "Colour is your whole life because you can see it everywhere" "We painted in our own space on the canvas and then we filled in the gaps with colours and then it became the whole painting" "A long time ago before God there was no colour" "When we don't know what colour it's going to be it makes us feel excited and happy" "When there was no such things there was no people and no God no wind and no planets and there was no colour. When there was dinosaurs there was light" "At night the darkness goes upon all the colour in the world and then the colour goes black except one little bit on the ground when the moon shines down" "I disagree because it's not the whole world that gets dark. On one side there is colour when the other side is dark and then they swap over" "I think white is not a colour because rainbows have all the colours and if the colours are not on the rainbow they are not colours" "The whole world has colour". This book or register records the date, name and address and ship name and remarks of visiting seafarers from a wide range of origins. The logbook provides an insight into which ships and the origins of their crews were visiting Williamstown and Melbourne in 1933. Promoting the Graphic Design/Multimedia program being offered by the University of Ballarat at the Mt Helen Campus. Promoted course as "one of the smallest and arguably the best three year programs of its kind in Australia and the South Pacific region." The brochure lists student awards received including Platinum and Gold in the AGFA International Young Designer Contest, 1999; two meritorious awards in The Art Directors Club Student Awards, New York, USA 1999; Graphis New Talent 1999; two Gold in Souther Cross Packaging Awards, 1998. At time of publication, the School of Arts, Visual Arts reportedly had 210 students with majors in Graphic Design/Multimedia, Ceramics/3D, Painting, Drawing, and Multidiscipline. Minors studies included Printmaking, Photography, 3D, 2D, and Graphic Communication. ___ Course aimed to train "independent, flexible thinkers". The course promised to "Promote creativity, originality and imaginative thinking; Develop self-directed learners, displaying initiative in the formation of ideas and the confidence to construct personal responses; Develop appropriate conceptual, technical and professional skills; Develop the student's critical process: ability to undertake research, and to make informed decisions; Clarify thinking, concepts and understanding and deep knowledge, attitudes and skills enabling the designer to respond to community needs." Studio and working environment described as "one open space with working facilities for approximately 75 students across 3 year levels. The area is divided up into work stations where 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students intermix, allowing a natural interaction. These workstations are configurations of six, consisting of two students from each year level. This reinforces the area's ongoing development with an open ethos and cross-level delivery and learning. This maximises the use of information in order for it to be applied throughout all levels of the learning process, whilst allowing a natural mentor arrangment to be developed for all first year students, " "The open ethos approach also encourages students and staff to freely express their opinions in relation to design via cross-level critiques, whilst allowing for a liberal arts approach and structure to the development of the creative process." Approx 4.5 staff, "all of whom are practicing designers. They have a full understanding of industry requirements and trends which assists in the development of industrial contacts when specialists are required." "Selection is determined by the perceived potential of the student, their motivation and reason for study within the field as well as their previous experience in the Visual Arts.
