The Centre which is still in operation today, is held as an example of the governments desire for the expansion of healthcare at the time and is holds great historical significance within the community of Emerald and surrounds. Frederik Vogel who was a mechanical engineer, bought a scale factory in 1888, and created the brand name "Seca" which he had copyrighted in 1897. Goods created by Seca were being manufactured in Germany and being used on a global scale. Scales such as the item described were upon the fist products being distributed from the company.This item holds significance as it reflects the longevity of the Emerald Maternal & Child health care Centre. It also provides insight into the type of equipment and technology being used within the field of maternal and child healthcare at this time.Metal scales, with a wicker cradle sitting on a wooden base. Right side of object consists of scale numbers and mechanics. Above this sits the Seca logo.Seca/ VOGEL & HALKE- HAMBURG / MADE IN GERMANY/emerald & district collection
