... Since these photographs were taken, Victoria has introduced legislation aimed at disrupting organised crime groups. Under the Criminal Organisations Control Amendment Act 2024, the public display of insignia and colours associated with specified criminal organisations is prohibited. ...These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1999, feature a gathering of members of the Rebels Motorcycle Club near their club houses located in Fairbairn Road, Sunshine West. The Rebels Motorcycle Club is one of Australia's best-known motorcycle clubs and has maintained a presence in Melbourne's western suburbs for many years. These images document the local motorcycle community and its social activities during the late 1990s. They provide a record of motorcycle clubs, community gatherings and recreational events that formed part of the district's motorcycle community social and cultural life. Since these photographs were taken, Victoria has introduced legislation aimed at disrupting organised crime groups. Under the Criminal Organisations Control Amendment Act 2024, the public display of insignia and colours associated with specified criminal organisations is prohibited. Clubs such as the Rebels may be subject to these provisions, meaning members can face penalties for publicly displaying club patches or colours. However, the legislation does not prohibit the existence of motorcycle clubs themselves.7676.01 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.02 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.03 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.04 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.05 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.06 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.07 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.08 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPG 7676.09 - The Rebels Motorcycle Club And Hot Rod Show Sunshine West 1999 Photographs (Advocate 65).JPGrebels motorcycle club, fairbairn road, sunshine west
