One was presented on a sash to one lady debutante at the local debutante ball by Amy Huxtable the Bendigo Advertiser Social Editor. Ron Penna was born in Bendigo in 1935. He worked at the Bendigo Advertiser newspaper from 1952 as a printer and foreman from 1968. He retired in 1995.A single sheet four-page supplement in the Saturday May 30 1987 edition of the Bendigo Advertiser which was the last in a special series held to mark Newspaper Week. The front page of tabloid size newspaper headline is Censorship, taxes: the press leads the fight. The article describes the fight for freedom of the press through the 18th, 19th and 20th centauries. A column on the right side is headed Important press dates. It starts with 1445 Johan Gutenberg invents moveable type, the foundation for 500 years and finishes with the 1970's swing to computer-based typesetting. The back page has a half page article headed Foreman Ron remembers the 'Tiser fire disaster. The article has a photograph of Ron Penna with a history of his career to that date at the Bendigo Advertiser. The lower half of the page is headed Ruth keeps the wheels in motion.
