Detectives, including Senior Detective Boyd McKittrick, believe the blaze was deliberately lit, noting several smaller fires around the grounds. Two Ringwood firefighters received minor injuries while containing the blaze. The site had been sold just a week earlier to Wilbow Peck Corporation, whose general manager Robert Boscarato said the damaged building was already scheduled for demolition and the area would now be cleared for safety. A nearby historic red‑brick classroom was saved with only minor damage. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact the arson squad or Crime Stoppers.
