Album compiled by Wal Jack of Ballarat Tram photographs. Yields information about the development of the Ballarat Tramway system through photographs, postcards, assembled by a well known Ballarat Identity - Wal Jack. Brown album marked "Photographs" on the front cover with a tooled vinyl cover, held by brass screws, containing 66 pages (including inside of covers and two blank pages) of paper (black, off white, light green, orange and brown paper) containing some 277 photographs, postcards, including some coloured postcards of Ballarat, including horse trams, ESCo and SEC trams. Each photo page has been scanned to a TIFF file with photo corners. Gwen Barton McWilliam (nee: Nelson), OAM, BA (1933- ). Gwen McWilliam is well known as an authority on the history of Boroondara and the author of a large number of books and pamphlets about the City. She was awarded the medal of the Order of Australia in 2001 ‘for service to the community of Hawthorn and district, particularly through the research, documentation and publication of its history.’ Digitally annotated part plan of the City of Boroondara, created by Council (Library?) staff, based on annotated plans provided by the historian Gwen McWilliam, identifying significant landholdings, subdivisions and key dates. On the plan Gwen McWilliam noted that the attempt to copy her annotations had resulted in incorrect data being included, so the plans were never published. Trains with electric swing doors were often referred to as "dog boxes" or "doggies". They were manufactured at the Newport Workshops for the Victorian Railways. Swing Door cars had outward-opening doors. They were reasonably narrow, to ensure that two passing trains would not foul each other if doors were accidentally left open. The donor George Lister Coop was about 20 years of age when he took this photo. It is one of a small series of photos donated by him that relate to Mont Albert and Surrey Hills stations. He has always had an interest in railways and there are other examples of his documentation of railway history in other collections contributing to this database.
