In 1963 the Shire of Ballarat celebrated its Centenary. This book outlines the history and development of the Shire over the 100 years.Councilor Charles Edward (Ted) Brown was at the time Shire President.The District Roads Board was created on 7th October 1856 and on 24th November 1863 was proclaimed a Shire,thus making it the first Shire in Victoria. Beaumaris includes two early estates in the parish of Moorabbin developed by Josiah Holloway from 1852. Named Beaumaris Town and Beaumaris Estate (after the pastoral run in the area and ultimately after Beaumaris in Wales), the lots comprising them were marketed by Mr Holloway's suggesting that the railway was imminent and a canal would be built. The township developed slowly, a Post Office opened on 1 March 1868, but was replaced next month by Gipsy Village office (now Sandringham) In 1862 Beaumaris was one of the early settler communities within the boundaries of the Moorabbin District Roads Board , the region’s first local government authority. Beaumaris is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 19 km south-east from Melbourne's central business district. .Since the Amalgamation of Councils 1994 the local government area is the City of Bayside which includes Brighton. Wax seals have been used since the Middle Ages and are primarily used for legitimising and authenticating official documents. This wax seal was used by the Campaspe Road Board (later the Huntly Council). The first president of the Campaspe Road Board was Sir James Joseph Casey who was a member of the municipal council of Sandhurst prior to holding this position in 1861.Circular, brass seal with wooden handle. A limited edition of a book "A History of the Bentleigh East Primary School No. 2083 formerly Bentleigh formerly East Brighton 1878-1978" published to mark the centenary of the Bentleigh East Primary School celebrated from 1 – 5th August 1978. The book was compiled by the Principal Peter Morris and is a collection of incidents, reminiscences and anecdotes arranged in chronological order to capture the character of the differing periods through which the school passed. The first local government authority for Marong was the Marong Road District (an early form of single-purpose local government), which was proclaimed on 19 August 1860. Its boundary was altered twice in 1862 and on 12 December 1864 it was re designated as a shire. It absorbed Raywood Borough in 1915, and was proclaimed a Rural City in 1990. On 2 December 1994, with the creation of Greater Bendigo City Council, it was abolished by being amalgamated with Bendigo City, Eaglehawk Borough, Huntly Shire, part of McIvor Shire, part of Metcalfe Shire and Strathfieldsaye Shire to form Greater Bendigo City.Rural City of Marong Stirling silver drop, plated in 22 ct gold with enamel centre piece. Wingrove Cottage is historically significant for its long association with Charles Wingrove, a prominent figure in Victorian local government, as secretary to the Eltham District Road Board and Shire Council from 1858 to 1904, and Shire Engineer and Secretary to the Heidelberg Road Board. The cottage was also used as the office of the Eltham District Road Board and Council for many years . One of the Shire's oldest dwellings, and one of the few surviving 19th century buildings associated with early Eltham and located in the original Eltham Village Reserve. Wingrove Cottage is considered historically significant to the Shire of Nillumbik and is registered on the Victorian Heritage Database. This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book,"Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971). The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as the 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' "Wingrove Cottage" was built 1858/59 for Charles Symons Wingrove, long serving Secretary and Engineer to the Eltham District Road Board and Shire Council. Sitauted on Main Road Eltha, it is on the Victorian Heritage Database and considered locally significant.
