It is situated 151 miles west of Melbourne and to the south of Mortlake and was originally part of the Mortlake shire, which was proclaimed 26th Jan 1864. Nearest streams are the Hopkins Riverand Lyall and Drysdale creek running through good agricultural land. This map relates to the breaking up of large runs which the Victorian government enabled through selection acts of the 1860's. The previously larger runs which were mainly cattle and sheep based were now more open to closer settlement and a greater variety in farming. The lots range in size from approximately 50 acres to around 600 acres. Some areas are set aside for reserves. By 1886 the population of Ballangeich had grown to around 600 with an hotel, three state schools and a church.Tri weekly coaches ran to Colac, Warrnambool and Camperdown providing access to supplies mail and communication. This map is typical of many which were produced in the 1860's in Victoria during a significant period of Victoria's and Warrnambool district history.Rectangular light card paper with black text showing allotments of land The area is coloured in green with scale at bottom right cornerAt the top: Plan of the Agricultural area of Ballangeich 1865 At the bottom left: Prepared by the Board of Lands & Works in accordance with the Amending Land Act 1865 Lands & Survey Office Melbourne 13th April 1865. The pottery opened in 1862. In 1864, it was called 'Wilnecote Company Limited'. Later it became George Skey and Co. Limited. Some of the crockery jars they made have a triangular C & B mark. Crosse & Blackwell were a food production company that needed jars for their products.Good example of a pottery jar used in food production in nineteenth century England. Possibly shows evidence of stains from original food container use. Antique jar. Small circular stoneware and salt glazed bi-coloured jar in mid 19th century style. Top section light or ochre brown with a patterned freize of inlaid small dots. Top opening measures 3 cm and is indented with overlapping rolled lid. Bottom section cream and undecorated. Some reddish or orange coloured stains on side and base. Darker coloured stain marks below most of frieze. The pottery was located at Princes Street, Lambeth and consisted of two floors containing numerous kilns, a modelling room and a crushing mill.Potteries existed along the Thames River from Roman times between Vauxhall Bridge and Lambeth Bridge. In the eighteenth century the industry concentrated in Staffordshire. Stephen Green was one of three potteries that continued to produce pottery in Lambeth between 1828 and 1858. This pot is somewhat unique having a different mark to standard identifying a patent for double glazing and a unique frieze pattern. It thus may be an early example of stoneware from this company. Due to its unusual trade mark and frieze pattern, this is a rare example of early stoneware produced in the London area in the nineteenth century. The trade mark identifies a patent awarded for double glazing on stoneware. Produced by Stephen Green Imperial Potteries, it is a rare example of pottery for its time and location. Some sources identify it as being produced in 1830.Small earthenware/stoneware traditional salt-glazed storage jar, bi-coloured in cinnamon and cream. Opening measures 4cm. Unusual frieze band at lower end of cinnamon section. Bears an unusual makers impression on bottom section. Slight chip on base. Also firing crack measuring 4 cm on base.Slightly elliptical circle impression with the words 'Stephen Green / Patent / Double Glaze / Imperialstoneware, antique pottery -
Bellarine Historical Society MuseumInstrument - Fuller Spiral Cylindrical Slide Rule, W.F. Stanley & Co, 1935
... Bellarine Historical Society Museum 11 High Street Drysdale geelong-and-the-bellarine-peninsula The Fuller cylindrical slide rule, is a cylindrical slide rule with a helical main scale taking 50 turns around the cylinder. ...The Fuller cylindrical slide rule, is a cylindrical slide rule with a helical main scale taking 50 turns around the cylinder. This creates an instrument of considerable precision – it is equivalent to a traditional slide rule 25.40 metres (1,000 inches) long. It was invented in 1878 by George Fuller, professor of engineering at Queen's University Belfast, and despite its size and price it remained on the market for nearly a century because it outperformed nearly all other slide rules. He patented it in Britain in 1878, described it in a journal in 1879 and in that year he also patented it the United States, depositing a patent model. As with other slide rules, the Fuller is limited to calculations based on multiplication and division with additional scales allowing for trigonometrical and exponential functions. The mechanical calculators produced in the same era were generally restricted to addition and subtraction with only advanced versions, like the Arithmometer, able to multiply and divide. Even these advanced machines could not perform trigonometry or exponentiation and they were bigger, heavier and much more expensive than the Fuller. In the mid-twentieth century the handheld Curta mechanical calculator became available which also competed in convenience and price. However, for scientific calculations the Fuller remained viable until 1973 when it was made obsolete by the HP-35 handheld scientific electronic calculator. Fuller's calculators were manufactured by the scientific instrument maker W.F. Stanley & Co. of London who made nearly 14,000 between 1878 and 1973.Like all slide rules, logarithmic scales are used to facilitate calculations more quickly and efficiently. The spiral logarithmic scale greatly increases the precision and computing power of the slide rule. In addition, its tables provide useful information to its users, most likely engineers. Its remarkable length permitted a high level of precision in calculations; calculations could be made to 4 or 5 significant digitsThe fuller calculator, is a cylindrical slide rule with a helical main scale taking 50 turns around the cylinder. There is a papier-mache cylinder fastened to a mahogany handle. A second papier-mache cylinder is a slide fit over the first. Both cylinders are covered in paper varnished with shellac. A brass pointer with an engraved index marker at its tip is attached to the handle and a second brass pointer is attached to the top cap. On the outer cylinder is a helical logarithmic scale 500" (41'8" or about 12.5 m) in length. This cylinder can be slid and rotated upon the inner one and hence with the correct sequence of movements, multiplications and divisions can be made and the answers read off the two pointers which project over the cylindrical scale.FULLER CALCULATOR inscribed on brass pointerscientific instrument, mathematics, calculating -

Bellarine Historical Society Museum 11 High Street Drysdale geelong-and-the-bellarine-peninsula The eponymous product was a sophisticated safety-razor which promoted with the slogan "The razor that is stropped and honed in its case". ...The eponymous product was a sophisticated safety-razor which promoted with the slogan "The razor that is stropped and honed in its case". The Rolls trademark, "The Whetter", was registered in the US in 1950; the claimed first use was 1922. The US patent for the method of attaching the blade to the handle was filed in 1925 and issued in 1930. The name "Rolls Razor (1927) Ltd." was used in advertising. The razor was still manufactured and sold until 1958, when the company was purchased by entrepreneur/corporate raider John Bloom, who decided to focus on washing machines rather than the razor. The company's principal market was a 21st birthday present for a young man. Sales declined with the rise of electric shaving. Though not made by the Rolls-Royce company, the name was chosen to evoke the "Rolls" image of luxury and quality. Rectangular chrome plated case with rounded edges and a latched lid on each side, with the lids bearing a repeating three row Greek key design. Each lid is released via a round patterned knob on each short side. Opening one side of the case reveals a razor blade contained within a roller rack with attached operating handle - all nickel plated - designed to slide along a track. Employing a back and forward sliding action sharpens the razor against a red leather strop sheet attached to the inside of the opposite lid. The strop is impressed at one end 'Strop. Made in England'. Utilising the opposite lid brings the razor against a black honing stone. The blade is removable. A separate nickel plated razor handle is included in the case and can be stored either in the side channel, or (for travelling) attached to the strop handle.A small circular maker's impressed mark appears on each side, with one side reading 'Rolls Razor / The Whetter' accompanied by an image of a kneeling man sharpening a razor, while the other side reads: 'Rolls Razor (1927) Ltd / Made in England / Patented in England and Abroad / English Patents numbers: 108531, 184514, 184515, 184754, 224578, 242717, 242716 and pending.' Additionally, one side of the case is engraved 'B016301'. -
