Portrait of Mrs Edward Green. In the 1840s, Edward B. Green ran the mail service between Melbourne and Sydney and owned a parcel of land on the Plenty River. He engaged a surveyor to draw up plans and lay out a township on the slopes overlooking the river, and to mark out small farm holdings on the flats.
