Lynne MAKINGs (1950- ) Artist Lynne Makings is an instigator and member of the Soldiers Hill Artist Collective, an eclectic group of artists from all various disciplines, residing within the region of Soldiers Hill, Ballarat. When this work was undertaken Lynne Makings was enrolled in a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Fine Arts) at the Federation University Arts Academy. The work was awarded a Deputy VIce Chancellor's Award, and was acquired from the 'End of Year Exhibition' (EYE).Double sided artwork comprising of numerous Indian Bean Tree seeds (Catalpa Bignoniodes). The seeds have been placed between to sheets of perspex. Jacqueline SLAYMAKER This work was undertaken in 1992 when Jacqueline Slaymaker was a 3rd Year student at Ballarat University College. The catalogue for the End of Year exhibition in 1992 states "The figures importance is purposeful. The strong sculptural form of the torso, tensions of the skin and volume are the aspects I focus on. Drawing is vital to my painting. The heavily layered works that I sand, scratch and rub back into eventually resolve some of the problems associated with painting. I believe this constant re-addressing creates a sense of history and building a texture creates a sense of history and build up of texture illustrates the concrete solid way I see the figure. I draw resource from ancient sculpture in particular Etruscan coffins and tomb wall painting. More recently I am interested in the draftsmanship of Jim Dine and monoprints of May Frank.' During Angeline Koot's final year at Federation Unvisity the course was conducted online while the commnuity was in lockdown due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. The work reflects the resulting isolation, in particular the effect on the 2020 festive season which was marred with postponment and much uncertaintly due to the pandemic. The subject matter includes cones and a sock representing Christmas traditions. The small soccer plays attempt to stop the 8 ball from destroying the cone pyramid tree, while the shark, representing the chaotic events of 2020, moves to attack a fallen soccer player. The goal keeper attempt to protect the cone pyramic, and keep everything under control. Peter GEORGAKIS Peter Georgakis completed his secondary education in Colac. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at University of Ballarat (now Federation University). The following year he successfully completed an Honours, Creative Fine Arts. He was the recipient of the 2012 Martha Pinkerton Award. By utilising and relating a variety of figurative and physical imagery, he depicts the fragmentation and explosion of an interior visual landscape within distorted thought processes. This work portrays a wide array of distorted cognitive responses in a very visceral and disordering application. His works convey and visualise this response by using a variety of different software, including medical imaging, sound to image and experimental visualisation techniques. With such software applications, he has been able to digitally manipulate figurative and physical imagery in an unorthodox manner. Guest book signed by some of those who attended the Bachelor of Visual Art (Graphic Design / Multimedia) exhibitions and dinners hosted by the University of Ballarat. Names include the students themselves, parents, friends and alumni. Attendees' addresses include Victoria and interstate, USA (eg Florida, California), UK, the Phillipines in addresses. Other entries demonstrate the attendance of some of Victoria's well known designers and agencies at the time, including representatives from local Ballarat studios. Helmut Stenzel was third year lecturer throughout this time. Students putting together these end of year exhibitions were usually overseen by Helmut Stenzel, Steven Roberts and other lecturing staff.This guest book is significant in that it represents a period during which the Graphic Design/Multimedia program was thriving.
