The Sherbrooke Netball Association (SNA) ran competitions from the mid-1970s until 2017-18, with Emerald teams still competing in the final roster available online from August 2017. This plaque was used to record the premiers of the 17B competition from 1982 until 2003; however, it was not used continuously. There are consistent winners marked from 1982 until 1995, with only a one-year gap in 1984. However, the plaque was then not used for 7 years, before the 2003 Emerald victory was recorded. The shield was not used again after 2003 leaving six engraving slots blank. It was manufactured by defunct trophy company Trophy Town, likely through their Kilsyth location. This shield recalls a long-standing, now-defunct local netball competition, including several victories by the Emerald team. This item is a rectangular wooden trophy. Affixed to it in a rectangular grid (eight rows and three columns) are rectangular brass plates, engraved with the year and name of premiership winners. The middle space in the first four columns of plates is replaced with a brass relief of a netball falling into a netball hoop. A larger brass plate at the top of the trophy shows the name of the competition. On the reverse there is a slot allowing the plaque to be mounted on a wall, and a green sticker with yellow writing. Several of the engraved names use different fonts to their predecessors or successors, indicating that the engraver or engraving style may not have been fixed.Top: "Sherbrooke Netball Association / 17B / PREMIERS" 1st Engraving: "SOUTH BELGRAVE / GREEN / 1982" 2nd Engraving: "EMERALD / BLACK / 1983" 3rd Engraving: "MACCLESFIELD / 1985" 4th Engraving: "MONBULK / 1986" 5th Engraving: "SASSY-FERNY CREEK / 1987" 6th Engraving: "EMERALD / BLACK / 1988" 7th Engraving: "MONBULK / GOLD / 1989" 8th Engraving: "EMERALD BLACK / 1990" 9th Engraving: "MONBULK GOLD / 1991" 10th Engraving: "EMERALD / 1992" 11th Engraving: "MENZIES CREEK / 1993" 12th Engraving: "MENZIES CREEK / 1994" 13th Engraving: "MACCLESFIELD / 1995" 14th Engraving: "EMERALD / 2003" Rear, Sticker: "TROPHY TOWN / KILSYTH 720 6399 / DANDENONG 792 9048 / SURREY HILLS 836 3437"sports, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, sherbrooke netball association

Celluloids are a class of compounds created from nitrocellulose and camphor, with added dyes and other agents. Generally considered the first thermoplastic, it was first created as Parkesine in 1856 and as Xylonite in 1869, before being registered as Celluloid in 1870. Celluloid is easily moulded and shaped, and it was first widely used as an ivory replacement. The main use was in movie and photography film industries, which used only celluloid films prior to acetate films that were introduced in the 1950s. Celluloid is highly flammable, difficult and expensive to produce and no longer widely used, although its most common uses today are in table tennis balls, musical instruments and guitar picks. Celluloid was useful for creating cheaper jewellery, jewellery boxes, hair accessories and many items that would earlier have been manufactured from ivory, horn or other expensive animal products. It was often referred to as "Ivorine" or "French Ivory". It was also used for dressing table sets, dolls, picture frames, charms, hat pins, buttons, buckles, stringed instrument parts, accordions, fountain pens, cutlery handles and kitchen items. The main disadvantage the material had was that it was flammable.. It was soon overtaken by Bakelite.A miniature, oval, Ivorine hand mirror with floral engraving on back. An early steel engraving print of Marysville in Victoria. An early steel engraving print of Marysville in Victoria by Nicholas Chevalier. Nicholas Chevalier, born in 1828, was a Russian-born artist who worked in Australia and New Zealand. In 1851 Chevalier moved to London and worked as an illustrator in lithography and watercolour. After further studies in painting in Rome he arrived in Australia in December 1854. In August 1855 he obtained work as a cartoonist on the newly established Melbourne Punch. Later he did illustrative work for the Illustrated Australian News and also worked in chromolithography. He accompanied explorer/meteorologist Georg von Neumayer on trips to remote areas of Victoria, and the material gathered on such journeys resulted in some of his most recognised pieces of this period, including his painting of Mount Arapiles in Western Victoria. In 1864, when the National Gallery of Victoria was founded, an exhibition of works by Victorian artists was held. The government agreed to buy the best picture exhibited for £200. Chevalier's oil painting The Buffalo Ranges was selected, and was the first picture painted in Australia to be included in the Melbourne collection. In 1865 Chevalier visited New Zealand, travelling widely and doing much work there which was exhibited at Melbourne on his return. In 1869 he joined HMS Galatea as an artist with the Duke of Edinburgh, on the voyage to the East and back to London with stops in Tahiti, Hawaii, Japan, China, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and India. The pictures painted during the voyage were exhibited at South Kensington. In January 1874 Chevalier was commissioned by Queen Victoria to travel to St Petersburg and paint a picture of the marriage of the Duke of Edinburgh. Chevalier made London his base and was a continual exhibitor at the Academy from 1871 to 1887. He had one picture in the 1895 Academy but had practically given up painting by then. Trench Art is the name given to objects manufactured by both soldiers and civilians from shell casings, bullets, shrapnel and miscellaneous battlefield debris, and is predominantly associated with World War I (1914 – 18). The most common material used for trench art are brass shell casings, which, once decorated, can be utilised as vases. Often items will bear an inscription such as the name of a French village or theatre of war and engraved decoration or embossing. George ‘Speca’ Moloney Born: 07/08/1909 From: Claremont-Cottesloe (WA) Height: 174cm Weight: 73kg Natural kicking foot: Right Guernsey number: 14 First senior match: Round 1, 1931 v Collingwood at Victoria Park The remarkably effective full-forward created an impact in his relatively short career. Although quite short for a key position, he was able to produce spectacular results frequently. He possessed remarkable ground play, elusiveness and goal sense. Amazingly, he was able to snap goals with either foot from virtually anywhere within range. Many of his goals came from kicks over his head or shoulder as he ran away from the scoring area to dodge opponents. He was fast, clever and a good mark. His League career commenced spectacularly; in his first two matches he scored a total of 19 goals. He later became the first player in history to score 10 goals or more in two successive matches (Round 15 and 16, 1932). In that year he became the first Geelong player to score 100 goals in a season. During 1935 he played successfully in the centre.
