This article gives a useful introduction to European plant hunters and their work in compiling plant lists and establishing gardens with many new species.Unusual new species discovered by plant hunters and introduced to European gardens, eventually, in the nineteenth century, became important in the establishment of the Ballarat Botanic Gardens.
