The eucalyptus dye has been used to create different tones of brown and red throughout the design with further dyeing used to create leaf imprints on the fabrics. 'Earth Blanket' is a quilt made by Pamela Farmer of Shoreham, Victoria in 2000. It is made from a wool blanket with merino and alpaca felt. The techniques used to make it include: felting, applique, quilting, machine and hand embroidery and it has been dyed with eucalyptus leaves. This quilt was an entrant in "Expressions 2000: the wool quilt prize"; an acquisitive exhibition held by the National Wool Museum from 16 Sept. 2000 to 3 Dec. 2000 (extended until 2 Feb. 2001) for contemporary art quilts, with the first prize winning $2000. Winner of Expressions 2004 Wool Quilt prize. The stitch as a measure of time is explored in this quilt. It is from a series i have been working on about my local environment. Shaped by time and the elements, Bow Wow Gorge us visited by more than 150 bird species.Quilt is a combination of silk, wool, baft, linen, and rayon thread. Two halves of the quilt have been hand sewn together and are a rusty red and grey in colour with small blue patches using plant dyes. Artists statement: "Out there" refers to the wide view of the undulating land extending from our home acreage towards the escarpment and the coast. There are also the millions of small organisms that live out there. The quilt was purchased from the Wool Quilt exhibition held at the National Wool Museum in 1995. It was subsequently exhibited in the Expressions 2000: The Wool Quilt Prize exhibition in the 'Invited exhibitors' section of the show. (Jan Irvine wrote the catalogue essay for this exhibition.) The quilt is part of the "Running Stitch" Collection. This quilt is titled "Sure as Night follows Day" and was made by Jan Irvine from worn and recycled woollen blankets with wool batting. The quilt has been crazy pieced, air brush dyed and hand quilted. The quilt was exhibited in the Running Stitch Contemporary Wool Quilt Exhibition held at the National Wool Museum in 1995 and was purchased for $1800 from this exhibition. The quilt was catalogue entry no. 18. 'Interweave One' is a quilt made by Judy Turner in 2000. It consists of a woollen background and coloured woollen yarn which have been machine couched to the background. The techniques used to make it include quilting and machine couching. ‘By Wagga Design’ is the winner of the Art Quilt Australia 2019 Expressions: Wool Quilt Prize. Barbara Mellor, of St Helens in Tasmania, made this quilt after researching the history of waggas and was fascinated by this early form of recycling. ‘By Wagga Design’ is her contemporary take on the traditional wagga that was born out of hard times and limited resources. Barbara wrote the poem below while thinking of the workers who used waggas while travelling: Black night campfire night sheep in the shadows dreams on the track a comforting wagga stitched with love for a homesick heart. The wagga was made in 2017 and was first submitted into the Bay of Fires Art Prize. In 2018 the wagga was submitted into the Break O’Day Stitchers Quilting and Embroidery Exhibition, where it won the Hanger’s Prize. Barbara sourced the fabrics used from a variety of places. Some are from her personal collection while others were given to her. She purchased a woollen three-piece suit from a local op shop and decided to incorporate it into the design, making some unique and distinctive shapes. Another distinctive feature of the quilt is the patch labelled ‘Parkside’. Barbara noted that it was cut from a blanket she purchased from a garage sale from a property that had once been a caravan park titled ‘Parkside’ in the 1960s. The filling of the wagga contains the rest of the Parkside blanket.Quilt made from various woollen garments and bedding in cool tone colours. Patches mostly cut into square and rectangle shapes. Expressions 2004 Quilt PrizeWeaving consisting of four panels sewn together to form the quilt. Consists of gradations of green to blue colours containing flecks of multicoloured wool through the weft. Weaving forms raised zigzag pattern running left to right through quilt. Three woven blue panels are sewn to the front of the quilt with dyed dark blue zigzags. The quilt is hung on a cardboard roll at the top.
