On his father's death the business was taken over by his son, Ferdinand SCHUMACHER , who died just 8 months later. The Schumacher Mill Furnishing Works were established in 1889 and operated until 1950. This business was a significant employer in Port Melbourne. The staff photo was taken in 1939 and was used in The Age dated 1 December 1939. The Todisco family (Ferdinand, Edvige and son, Joseph) lived in the former Prince Arthur Hotel from around 1958 to 1981. They bought the building in the early 1960s from Mrs SCHUMACHER and ran it as a rooming house with a milk bar on the ground floor. They closed the milk bar in the early 1970s and sold the property in 1981.
