The Agfa Traveller is essentially the same device underneath as an Agfamatic pocket camera. , specifically sharing its core mechanics and body with the Agfamatic 3000 Flash Pocket. Released in 1982, the Traveller was marketed with a more elegant aluminum sliding front panel instead of the standard plastic finish, while retaining the exact same 110-film pocket format. The Agfa Traveller arrived in 1982 near the very end of Agfa's proprietary camera manufacturing era, as the company wound down its internal West German camera production lines by 1983.This slimline Agfa Gevaert Traveller camera is made from black plastic and silver metal with the brand stamped on the top left front. It was designed for easy travel and casual everyday use utilizing 110 drop-in film cartridges. It has a red dottted button to press to take the picture. The viewfinder is released by pushing a small black button on the back top left, downwards, which slides the lens open for use. This button is pressed upwards to close the camera when not in use. The flash is protected by a clear plastic lined cover. Inside is a used Kodak Gold film 24 exp 200. 0n the counter it shows 18 out of the 24 images have been used, with six remaining. There is a Batt. cover which cannot be opened. On the front there is a lever for selecting flash distances and sunlight. A linked silver coloured metal chain holder is connected at one end.A small white triangle with white lettering on the bottom has the 'Agfa' symbol inside it with 'Agfa Gevaert' below. 'Batt.' is stamped on the small black section next next to the viewfinder at the top. 'AGFA traveller' is stamped onto the silver top near the flash. This strut folding roll film camera of Houghton's "Ensign – British made" brand was an ingenious construction, a real vest pocket item when folded. One of the round framed impressions on its front plate says that it was based on patent 28464 of the year 1907. The Swedish engineer Magnus Neill had designed this first British all-metal camera of which ten of thousands were made. The camera was launched before Christmas 1909. It was ordered by distributors all over the world, for example by G. Gennert. (Ref: camerapedia) The Ensignette was very popular because it was one of the first practical, compact cameras at an affordable price to the average man. The collection comprises manuscripts, personal artefacts used by the Haeusler family on their farm in Wodonga, and a set of glass negatives which offer a unique visual snapshot of the domestic and social lives of the Haeusler family and local Wodonga community. The Haeusler family migrated from Prussia (Germany) to South Australia in the 1840s and 1850s, before purchasing 100 acres of Crown Land made available under the Victorian Lands Act 1862 (also known as ‘Duffy’s Land Act’) in 1866 in what is now Wodonga West. The Haeusler family were one of several German families to migrate from South Australia to Wodonga in the 1860s. This photographic equipment belonged to Louis Haeusler (b.1878) and is one of the many objects in the Haeusler Collection that represent home and social life in early twentieth century Wodonga.This item has well documented provenance and a known owner. It forms part of a significant and representative historical collection which reflects the local history of Wodonga. It contributes to our understanding of domestic and family life in early twentieth century Wodonga, as well as providing interpretative capacity for themes including local history and social history. The donor, a member of the Emerald Museum Committee for several years, donated other items of used photographic equipment which suggests they were a keen photographer. The airways tag shows that the donor took the camera with him when he visited England.This camera owned and used by a local person was made by a company which is significant in Australian photographic history.Black camera case lined with black leather on outside and red felt on inside.
