Associate Professor Meg Tasker was employed at Federation University Australia (formerly University of Ballarat) from July 1989 to September 2018 where she lectured in literary and cultural studies. She supervised one of the first PhDs in the University, and was one of the first University of Ballarat staff to be awarded an ARC Discovery Large Grant for on Australian Writers in Britain 2003-2006. Meg Tasker served as the General Editor of the Australasian Victorian Studies Association Journal from 2014 to 2018. She published a critical biography of Francis W.L. Adams, and is recognised as an authority in the field of 19th century Australian cultural studies. Andrew John BALSILLIE MBE, JP. Jack as he was known enlisted in the Australian Army near the end of WWII No 31224 age 16 years. He then served in Malaya 1959 - 1961then Vietnam with the rank of Captain with 1st Aust Task Force HQ Light Aid Detachment (LAD) 7.5.1969 - 7.11.1969, HQ Aust Force Vietnam Army component 8.11.1969 - 7.5.1970. He retired with the rank of Major in 1985 after 40 years plus. He was awarded an MBE in 1969 for his services to the Australian War Memorial. Elected to Committee Bendigo RSL 1988 - 1993 with Snr Vice President 1989 - 1993, re-elected 1999 - 2000. Re-elected again in 2002 as Snr Vice President. William Dower brought his family to the Dandenongs in 1898, taking up 10 acres. His property was Cambridge Gardens located between the present Mt Dandenng Tourist Road and Yarrabee Road. William and his wife Elizabeth had seven boys (Will, Harry, Bert, Walter, Joe, Edgar, Robert) and four girls (Emmy, may, Ada and Ruby). This photograph shows raspberry picking at Cambridge Gardens c1907. The Dower Homestead is visible. The boys in the floppy felt hats are from Burwood Boys Home. Ruby Dower is centre front.
