Tawonga CWA branch commenced on 7th Feb. 1946. Prior to this the ladies would have been involved in supporting the war effort with knitted and spun items as described in this book. The branch often combined activities with the other branches in the Kiewa Valley. The C.W.A. aimed to improve health, welfare and education for women and children in the country. Getting together for the war effort would have succeeded in this aim perhaps encouraging the women to continue meeting under the banner of C.W.A.The Tawonga ladies would have been involved in assisting the war effort from home. Most of the ladies lived on remote farms so they may have got together, learnt together and felt happier while contributing to the war effort and supporting the men fighting overseas. Wool was available and easily made into useful items that could be shipped overseas. After the war, the ladies may have wanted to continue meeting and hence decided to form a C.W.A. branch.Small brown book with black writing. 32 pages held by 2 rusty staples.The book gives patterns and instructions for making woolcraft (knitting & spinning) eg. socks & scarves, for the Airforce, Navy and Army with specific colours, thickness of wool and notes eg. no frills. Sets of SEC Provincial tramways pre purchase strip tickets (known in Bendigo as Section tickets) consisting of up to 12 No. 1d tickets (1/- worth), printed on 210 gsm orange pasteboard and blind perforated at each ticket to enable them to be torn off and cancelled. Each ticket strip has the same ticket number. Form TYE 2-15 See below for the ticket details of each strip. Each strip of 10 or 12 tickets has been folded in half. Tickets availability printed on back of ticket - 0 and 1, 1A and 3, 1A and 4, or two for a 2d section or part payment of a 3d or 4d fare. Not known when in use at time of cataloguing. Pre 1950's? ESCo Employee Hours Work Record book that has been used by an ESCo/SEC inspector, H. P. James as a record / note book for his personal collection or papers or journal titled "Out of the Past". Book sewn with string in 36 page sections, blank end papers, board covers with stipple paper out sides and Rexene cloth binding. Comprising plain paper end papers and 104 printed pages (52 leaves), with each sheet printed in black on feint ruled paper for recording the hours worked and other details of drivers and conductors employed by ESCo. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Images: Book - i1 Inside front cover - i2 Members Certificate - i3 Has been used to gather mementos such as photos, articles, newspaper clippings, letters and other miscellaneous documents on Ballarat local history. Newspaper cuttings etc often have side notes written by Mr. James. Inside front cover has certificate recording Mr. James membership to the Ballarat Historical Society for 1940. Receipt signed by Edward Crimmins. Also a newspaper cutting on the cost of pensions to Lord Nelson's family. On the rear of one sheet has written ink ticket denominations issues from 28/2/1963 to 1/1/1969 - seven different series, though first have then been crossed out. Repeat on second sheet. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways ticketing system for use with the daily return from Sebastopol (See Reg Item 3492 for check ticket). Printed by ESCo for a specific route and particularly historic because a weekly set of tickets has been formed.Set of six Day return (4d) tickets for travel between Sebastopol and Grenville St - one for each day of the week. Have day of month around the edge, where it would have been nipped on the inward journey. Notes condition of use and that it must be given up on the return journey for a check ticket - See Reg. Yields information about the style and printing of parcel check tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Block of 10 No. 4d Parcel check tickets. Prepared as a block of 10 two part printed tickets, using red ink on 60 gsm reddish paper with the top half part having a part gummed back, stapled with a single staple at the top onto an off white light weight cardboard sheet. The ticket butt has the form number "TYE 3-18". The top portion was to be affixed to the parcel to be carried. It has the name of the organisations (SECV), "Parcel Check 4d", conditions of carriage and ticket number, suffixed with the letter D. The lower portion was retained by the sender, was to be initialled by the conductor, "Parcel Check 4d", conditions of use, ticket number and a space where to be initialled by the conductor. Demonstrates the method of dispensing tickets by conductors, how the tickets could be arranged, although the arrangement may not exactly represent the 1958-1963 arrangements of a ticket wallet. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented. Has a strong association with Travis Jeffery.Ticket wallet with a set of nine 1950-60's Ballarat tram tickets set up to represent a typical conductor's set of tickets by Travis Jeffrey, though these may not exactly line up with the fares at any one period - 1958 to 1963 following the introduction of concession tickets. Does not have a 3d City Section Ticket. 4000 - Sheet of leather, approx. 2mm thick, stained brown with four pockets formed on each side with another sheet of leather, stitched on all sides to form pockets to hold eight blocks of tickets. Stitching is a light cream or white colour cotton. Form headed "Ballarat Tramways Punch Register" - with extensive entries required for the record of tramcar operations on ESCo Ballarat tramways. Principally around the number of tickets sold, punched and trips with the pay-in details along the lower edge. HP James notes the use of Bell punches of two types in his notes on tickets - see item 2541. See item 2531 for a 4d ticket that states it had to be Bell punched. Has space for 4d return, 1d night school, disabled soldiers, and various values of dockets.
