Frederick Douglas Jones ( - 14/7/1927) Born in Ireland and came to Australia as an infant, Frederick was admitted as an attorney 8/7/1878. He formed a partnership with Frank Macaboy in 1878 and initially they were located in Gould's buildings in Bull Street but by 1882 they were practising from the Albion Chambers in View Street. 1. John Knox Abbey (1863 - 27/7/1938) was originally a landowner in Rochester. He married Ethel May Winch in 1897 and their children were all born in Rochester. Sometime after 1918 he inherited the "Cluny" estate in Penola, SA., from his uncle William MacPherson. He died and was buried in a private graveyard on this property. 2. Also mentioned in the estate papers is G. (Gertrude) Alice Jones. Miss Jones was one of the first females to be admitted to the bar (1912) and was the first female to appear before the court in Bendigo. 'Bendigo, 1857. Bank of Victoria, View St., in foreground. '23' was afterwards Grant's Confectionery shop next 'Abbot's New Times.' The Victoria Hotel became the National Bank of Australasia. The Colonial Bank of Australia is next to the left. 'Edmondson's and the building next Colonial. Bank., became the Bendigo Arcade. The 2 story building to right of the Victoria Hotel became the Stock Exchange as auction room of Shadrach E.R.Jones who was also a Doctor of Medicine. Building to left of the Colonial. Bank was the shop of J.Nelson Jones Chemist afterwards a Brewer, he came to Australia 1848 and died in Ararat 9/1/14 (88).
