New Bendigo Gold Project The Bendigo goldfield is centred on the urban area of Bendigo (population approximately 60 000) in central Victoria, 130 km north west of Melbourne, Australia. Gold was discovered at Bendigo in 1851 and production continued through to 1954. The Bendigo goldfield is the second largest goldfield in total gold produced in Australia, after Kalgoorlie's Golden Mile with a total production of 22 million oz. The geology of the Bendigo Field consists of a series of tightly folded, interbedded sandstone and shale sediments. Within the sediments the gold mineralisation is hosted in quartz reefs or ribbons closely associated with anticline axes and reverse faulting. The gold within the quartz reefs is typically both coarse grained and erratically distributed.Bendigo Advertiser article attached to a photocopy of an underground rock formation. Photocopy date stamped 21.8.2000. Headline on newspaper article: 'Gold search continues'. Content describes exploration on the New Chum line of reef 'down to 1500 metres below the surface'. Doug Buerger is quoted discussing the 10 million ounce potential of the New Bendigo gold project. The Garden Gully line of reef is being tested for unmined ribbons on the reefline. bendigo mining n.l., bendigo, mining, gold, kangaroo flat, doug buerger, garden gully reef, new chum reef

'Bendigo Advertiser' article, 15th March , 1995, titled ' Miner reckons there's gold in Bendigo hills'. Comments from Mr. David Pascoe (miner and Mines Inspector) and Mr. Harry Clarke (former miner, Mines Inspector and mine manager) state that 'synclinal folds and inverted saddle reefs had been almost entirely neglected by Bendigo miners'. Mine ventilation and rock temperatures in the New Argus (Eaglehawk) and the New Chum Railway at Golden Square were researched by David Pascoe. Pascoe said 'the resources of the Bendigo field are enormous when it is considered that there are 516 kilometres of surveyed lines of reef down to the depth mines; by including the synclines it almost doubles that figure without any deeper penentration of the field'. gold mining, bendigo, bendigo mining nl, harry clarke, david pascoe, quartz legstones, saddle reef, spurs, mine ventilation, rock temperature, new argus, new chum, garden gully reef

The initial partnership in a quartz crushing plant between Henry Koch, Simon Albert and Charles Wallin was dissolved in 1860 with Koch becoming the sole owner. In 1866 the crushing plant consisted of a 50 hp engine and 48 stamping heads capable of crushing 600 tons of quartz per week. By 1902 there were 72 stamps and this was by far the largest crushing plant in the area, serving many quartz mines. Henry Koch (1800-1889) was a German sailor who signed off when his ship reached Melbourne in 1851. Having heard of the gold discovery he proceeded to Bendigo where he was initially employed in puddling in the Myers Flat area. He was soon employed and then made partner in a quartz crushing plant that he became sole owner of in 1860. He was also landlord at the British and American Hotel and the Silver Mines Hotel. HE also started the Perseverance United gold claim. He married Anna Maria Theresia Heinz in 1857. In 1872 he sold the crushing plant for 75,000 pounds and took his family back to Germany. He resumed his trade as a ship builder although he maintained many Bendigo mining interests.Photocopy of an article from the Bendigo Advertiser, dated 5/5/1982 titled Fortunes carried in mine.
