World War II 1939-1945 Luftwaffe leather flying gauntlets were protective hand wear designed for military aviators to guard against high-altitude freezing temperatures and severe flash burns. They shielded aircrews from instrument burns and cockpit fires. Long gauntlet cuffs protected the wrists and forearms from drafts and cold air. They were favored by bomber and maritime patrol crews in unheated aircraft, German aircrew gauntlets used thin brown kid leather with raised ridges and expanding wrist gussets. Fighter pilots usually rejected them in favor of shorter gloves for better mobility. Worn by Ralph Proctor. A pair of WW11 Luftwaffe flying gauntlets. They are light brown leather, fur lined, tapered at the wrist, and fitted with a narrow expandable wristband which closes with a dark brown press stud. There are three detailed stitching lines on the back of each gauntlet.gloves, gauntlet gloves, ww2 flying gloves, uniforms

In 2024, while doing some renovations at the Orbost Customer Service Centre / Library, Council staff have found some boxes of old Orbost Municipal Band uniforms and flags which date back to the late 1970s (when it’s understood the band wound up). These items were offered to the O D Historical Society for its collection. A selection was made (3364). The first Orbost Brass Band was formed in 1889. Around 1908 the town band split and the Orbost Workers' Band was formed. Eventually the two bands merged in 1913 to reform as the Orbost Municipal Band under conductorship of Charles Spink. The band continued for many years but was later disbanded and again reformed. This was to happen a number of times, the last time being in 1961 and continuing through to the late 1970's. During World War II, Japanese pilot gauntlets were made from a combination of suede and leather. Specifically, the gloves featured high-quality deer hide suede for the finger section, while the upper portion was made of heavy cowhide leather, providing both warmth and protection. This pair of gauntlets are believed to be souvenired by an Australian soldier in New Guinea during WW2. This material choice was common among military aviation uniforms, reflecting the need for durable and functional gear in extreme conditions. Brown suede gloves with brown ribbon strap threaded through an eyelet and secured with a press stud. A green patch of material with two black japanese symbols is sewn onto brown leather trim attached to suede.Inside glove - japanese makers patchgloves, ww2, japan
