Portrait of Will Rees from Australian Photographic Journal. c 1909. Will J. Rees born at Fiery Creek near Beaufort in 1856. Died in Mayes Street Stawell in 1938. Will Rees started working as a carpenter and at 21 worked as a sign writer and decorator. Later in life he became a celebrated artist. An exhibition of his work held in 1927 attracted over 1000 people. He is also noted as a writer of historic events which happened in Stawell during his lifetime in the town. Original photograph by W.
