Black and white photo of “Swinton” Homestead Glenorchy with light pole and flagpole on front lawn. Swinton was a family name of John Carfrae whose father was Thomas Swinton Carfrae of Edinburgh. When John Carfrae came to Ledcourt in 1848 he divided it into three runs, Ledcourt - Swinton & Newington. Alexander Grey came to Swinton in 1881. The Grey Family still live at Swinton. After severe floods in 1909 the original homestead was destroyed. This home picture was built in 1911 on a site on higher grounds.B/W. “Warranooke” Homestead built 1867 enlarged 1926. Shows extensive gardens at front. A very early property in our district Warranooke The main names associated with the property Ayrey - Darnell - Nicoll, later Campbell. Mrs. Campbell built Charles Ayrey's daughter. The Campbells built up the station buildings. The homestead was virtually rebuilt in brick, making it one of the largest and most elaborate in the East Wimmera. Warranooke homestead built 1867, enlarged 1926 destroyed by fire 13th Feb. 1979. Black and white fish eye photograph of a large brick cement rendered two story home. Home with a tiled hip roof. Have had the one family owning it for six generations. Nevil Campbell's son Peter now running it and hopefully his small son will later. Two front rooms original rooms of the homestead & the rest has been added, & extended about fifty years ago.glenorchy
