South New Chum Syncline South New Chum Syncline Gold Mines, N.L., has been floated with a capital of £27,500 in 55,000 shares of 10/ each. Forty thousand have been issued at 1/,10,000 fully paid shares go to vendors, and 5000 will be held in reserve. - Messrs. Savage and Nicholas report that the issue was heavily over-subscribed. This hill reached by a short and excellent access road gives a magnificent view of Bendigo and Golden Square, and a very good view of another tourist attraction, Lansells 'Fortuna' now Survey Regiment's headquarters. This hill is the centre of another rich area. The Lazarus mine 3,360 feet deep with 24 saddle reefs in 2,200 feet. The New Chum United, Lansell's 222with its 120 ft high poppet legs. It's 102 years since gold was first discovered at Golden Square, but today only two Deborah mines are working where once 3000 mines hummed. The Bendigo field had yielded 22,000,000 ounces valued at 110,000.000 pounds and three times more on today's value but last years output was only 10,000 ounces and the year before 13000 ounces. 'Bendigo Advertiser' article, 15th March , 1995, titled ' Miner reckons there's gold in Bendigo hills'. Comments from Mr. David Pascoe (miner and Mines Inspector) and Mr. Harry Clarke (former miner, Mines Inspector and mine manager) state that 'synclinal folds and inverted saddle reefs had been almost entirely neglected by Bendigo miners'. Mine ventilation and rock temperatures in the New Argus (Eaglehawk) and the New Chum Railway at Golden Square were researched by David Pascoe. New Chum Gully is one of the earliest and most important alluvial and quartz mining gully of Bendigo goldfields. It was also one of the more lucrative reefs and became the site of extensive quartz reef mining with some of the richest mines of the field, led by George Lansell and Daniel Barnet Lazarus. These included the nearby mine sites of New Chum and Victoria, New Chum United, Old Chum, Lansells 222 and Lazarus as well as operating extensive battery buildings and pyrites works that were all located in New Chum Gully between Booth, Thistle Streets and Maple Street. North Deborah Gold Mine was located near Eve Street and Breen Street, Golden Square. :The company occupying this site was the leading gold producer of the Deborah line of reef during the 1930's mining revival period. The site is reserved for mining, contains the only brick mine chimney still standing. It is readily accessible, is visible from the Deborah site, Chum Hill and various other places around central Bendigo, and has views both to Chum Hill and the Deborah site.Light tan heavy paper plan.
