Matron Vivian Bullwinkel flew from Perth to Fairfield Hospital to witness the last graduates of the Basic Nursing and Aide/Enrolled Nurse Training program before training is turned over to colleges. Vivian set up the training program when she was the director of nursing at Fairfield, between 1961 and 1977. With this final class, the total graduates of the program reached 1195. Vivian acknowledged that while medicine and treatment as evolved with the times there is one thing that hasn't changed: people's needs. The nature of nursing means getting close to people and this was never more apparent than when in a Japanese POW camp Vivian and other fellow nurses were approached by another POW of a different nationality requesting help as they trusted them, not the people in authority. This is a program for the Order of Service for the Induction of the Rev Rhys Miller to St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Warrnambool in 1946. St. John’s Church was officially opened in 1875, burnt down in 1920 and rebuilt around the skeleton structure remaining on the same site. The Rev. Rhys Miller had been a R.A.A.F. Chaplain during World War Two before coming to Warrnambool in 1946. He was absent from Warrnambool for most of that first year undertaking post-graduate studies in Scotland. The Rev. Miller was the Minister at St. John’s Church until 1952 when he transferred to a Gardenvale church in Melbourne. The centenary of Presbyterianism in Warrnambool took place in 1949 and Rev. Miller wrote the booklet, ‘100 Years of Worship and Work’. In 1984 he published his autobiography, ‘Calling and Recalling’. This program is of interest because the Rev. Rhys Miller, as a Minister of St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Warrnambool, was a significant person in Warrnambool’s history. This is a program, the Order of Service for the Induction of the Rev. Deakin University was established in 1974 as the fourth university in Victoria. It has a number of campuses around the state including Warrnambool where it merged with The Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education in 1990. Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. VIOSH accepts people into the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Hazard Management who have no undergraduate degree - on the basis of extensive work experience and knowledge The newly-formed Australian College of Occupational Medicine was formed in 1983 in Parkville Victoria. The Chief Censor was David Ferguson. He was requested by the Council to develop training programs for future Fellows of the College. The College does not expect to conduct courses or examinations at present, but may do so in the future. It is interested to know what courses are or likely to become available throughout Australia. As Ballarat College of Advanced Education offers courses in occupational health/hygiene/safety/ergonomic, the College maybe interested in offering courses. If so, details of the courses should be forwarded for for consideration. The College is anxious to identify and promote courses that meet the College's needs and standards. He performed on the University's historic Erard Grand Concert piano on stage in Founders Hall, describing it as "absolutely amazing.' The instrument was 93 years old and hadn't been played for more than eighty years. An audience of 500 were entertained with pieces by Schubert and Bach for the first half of the program and Waltzes, Mazurkas, and Polonaises by Chopin after the interval. A feature of the show is Lola's celebrated Spider Dance which was acknowledged many years ago by the crowd throwing gold nuggets onto the stage. Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. VIOSH accepts people into the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Hazard Management who have no undergraduate degree - on the basis of extensive work experience and knowledge. Derek Viner was involved in the development of the VIOSH program and the first course in 1979 was under his leadership. He completed a Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering in the 1960s and then a Master of Science Air Transport Engineering in the 1970s. Dennis Else came to join the staff at Ballarat College of Advanced Education in 1984. He came here from the University of Aston in Birmingham, England.
