He married Annie Anders-Pohl in 1876. He took over his father-in-laws vineyard at Axe Creek. Gustave and Annie had the following children:- Alice MAtilda (1877-1984) m. Fred Jenkinson in 1911; Amelia (1879-1954) m. Alfred Ernest Dunstone in 1912; Gertrude (1881-13/3/1959) m. Henry Dunn in 1908; Carl Otto (1884-3/12/1960) m.
