Grenville College was founded in 1855 by W. Stellard as Ballarat Grammar School. The school was amalgamated by Mr Victor are Ballarat Grammar School in 1867 as the Ballarat Collegiate and Grammar School. Its name was changed to Grenville College in 1869. In 1908 Grenville College was situated in Mair Street, Ballarat, and the Principal was A.A. Buley. Pupils were educated for either commercial life or for the University. He has organised salvage parties and was instrumental during the advance in September in making German Dumps of HE material available for use in forward positions thus saving time and transport. His work throughout has been characterised by marked individuality and courage in the forward area and has been productive of far reaching results. He served at Gallipoli and the Western Front. Due to pneumonia and enteric he returned to Australia in early 1916 to recuperate and married before returning in August 1916. Seven men were killed at the Great Extended Hustler's mine disaster on 2nd May 1914 by an explosion of dynamite occurring as the men were waiting at the plat to ascend the mine at the end of their shift. No blame was attached to anyone in the findings of the inquisition. It was unknown what caused the dynamite to explode. This document formed part of the research done at the time of the 100 years commemoration of the mine disaster, held at Hustlers Hill in 2014. One page photocopy of the report of the proceedings before Coroner inquisition held at Bendigo on the 3rd, 9th and 12th of May 1914, to inquire into the deaths of the miners William Crowther Blair, John Henry Campbell, Frederick James Chinn, Matthew George Forster, Leslie Duncan Martin, William Ryan and Herbert John Thomas who were killed 'by an explosion of dynamite at the Great Extended Hustlers Mine, Bendigo on 2nd. May 1914. Richard Ernest Reed, the Underground Manager, was commended for his bravery.
