The Sund family owned and operated a timber sawmill in Marysville. Sund's Sawmill (historically operated by Arthur & John Sund and often referenced locally as Sund Stenco) was a prominent mid-century timber mill located in Marysville, Victoria. It played a central role in the region's booming post-war logging era. The mill was highly active during the 1950s. This era marked a peak for Marysville's timber sector, with over 300 men employed across multiple local mills, sustaining nearly 1,000 residents. According to Victoria Government Gazette records from 1958, the Sund brothers operated commercial goods vehicles to transport Mountain ash and other hardwood logs from forest landings in the Mt. Gordon area directly to their mill in Marysville. Sawn timber from the Sund Bros mill was primary distributed to Millard's timber yards at Mt. Evelyn, eventually supplying building blocks across the rapidly growing eastern suburbs of Melbourne.A bookmark that was available to attendees at Bill Sund's funeral. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. From Victorian Heritage Database citation for H2376 Former Elsternwick Fire Station, 2-4 Selwyn Street Elsternwick - Victorian Heritage Register https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/2645 (as at 21/11/2021) The Former Elsternwick Fire Station was built and commenced operation in 1896. It was one of 32 new fire stations built between 1892 and 1896 by the newly formed Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade ('MFB') to form a comprehensive fire-fighting network across Melbourne. The MFB was established in 1891 as Victoria's government-run fire-fighting service in Melbourne and its growing suburbs. By 1918 motorised fire engine appliances had replaced horse-drawn fire vehicles across the metropolitan area, and the consequently larger areas that fire stations could protect meant the 1896 Elsternwick Fire Station was one of many which was becoming obsolete. The MFB continued to use the Elsternwick Fire Station up until the Station's closure in 1926. From 1927 the former Fire Station was leased by neighbouring timber merchants JJ Webster Pty Ltd who subsequently purchased the property from the MFB in 1934. From 1954 the 'Esquire Motors' car repair business traded at the site, and changes to the former Fire Station building including the complete enclosure of its yard by corrugated steel walls and roofing appear to have been completed in the mid-1950s. In 1990 the Australian Broadcasting Corporation ('ABC') purchased the former Fire Station together with five other adjoining land parcels in Selwyn Street. From that time until 2017 the former Elsternwick Fire Station has been used by the ABC as office and storage space in its Selwyn Street television studio complex. From Victorian Heritage Database citation for H2376 Former Elsternwick Fire Station, 2-4 Selwyn Street Elsternwick - Victorian Heritage Register https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/2645 (as at 21/11/2021) The Former Elsternwick Fire Station is historically significant as one of the 10 remaining fire stations of the original 32 built for the newly established Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade ('MFB') during the four-year period 1892 to 1896. These fire stations were constructed following the establishment in 1891 of the MFB, Victoria's government-run fire-fighting service for metropolitan Melbourne and its growing suburban population. These new stations formed a crucial part of the MFB's fire-fighting network across Melbourne. The Former Elsternwick Fire Station clearly demonstrates the historical development of fire-fighting services in Melbourne, especially the expansion of the newly-formed MFB throughout Melbourne's suburbs during the 1890s. [Criterion A] The Former Elsternwick Fire Station is architecturally significant as a fine example of a late nineteenth century fire station. Constructed shortly after the establishment of the MFB, it displays characteristics of its class of place that remain mostly unchanged from the former Station's historically important period of development and use. A particularly strong element of the Former Elsternwick Fire Station is the large and strikingly-detailed stone horseshoe arch, designed for horse-drawn fire-fighting vehicles, at the street entrance to its fire-engine room. The McPherson’s Pump Works operated alongside the Wiltshire Files factory. The Wiltshire Files factory was located at the front, facing Sunshine Road, the McPherson’s Pump Works at the rear. The Ajax Pumps Company was the operational name for McPherson’s pump manufacturing division. The Tottenham plant produced industrial pumps, cast metal components, engineering fittings and wartime industrial supplies. The peak operations of the plant were during the 1950’s to 1970’s period. This was before the decline of the late 20th century that saw manufacturing consolidated into fewer sites, and parts of the Tottenham complex were demolished and the remaining structures suffered vandalism and deterioration.Today, the 1939, 1947, and 1965 sections remain highly intact, making the site one of the most important surviving industrial complexes in the region. Though Jacana Primary School closed in the early 2000s, its legacy lives on in images like this—offering a window into the lived experiences of students and the social fabric of Melbourne’s northern suburbs ...Jacana Primary School, established in 1959 amid Melbourne’s post-war suburban expansion, was a cornerstone of the Jacana community for over four decades. Built to serve families settling in newly developed housing estates in the northern corridor, the school quickly became a hub for education, inclusion, and community connection. Its student population reflected the area’s growing diversity, with many migrant families contributing to a vibrant and evolving school culture. By the late 1980s, Jacana Primary had earned recognition not only for its academic programs but also for its strong commitment to extracurricular activities. Soccer, in particular, emerged as a defining feature of school life. It united students across cultural and social backgrounds, fostering teamwork, resilience, and a deep sense of school pride. The sport’s popularity mirrored the cultural heritage of many students, making it both a recreational and symbolic activity. Established in 1959 during a period of rapid suburban development, Jacana Primary served a diverse and growing community, including many migrant families whose cultural backgrounds enriched the school’s identity. This image captures more than a moment of sporting success—it embodies the inclusive spirit, resilience, and camaraderie that defined Jacana Primary’s approach to education. Soccer was a central part of school life, bridging cultural divides and fostering a sense of belonging among students. The photograph stands as a testament to the school’s commitment to holistic development, where extracurricular activities played a key role in shaping character and community cohesion. Although Jacana Primary School closed in the early 2000s, its legacy endures through visual records like this one, offering valuable insight into the lived experiences of students and the evolving social fabric of Melbourne’s northern corridor during a transformative era.A colour photograph on Matte embossed photo paper.PH-5339(blue label) This paper/ Manufactured/ By Kodakjacana primary school, photograph, school photograph, education, soccer team, 1990, jacana -

The club itself notes that its first 25 years (1950–1975) are the least documented, though surviving photographs show active competition and club championships by the 1960s. The club has long operated from the St Albans Community Youth Club, 309A Main Road East — the same “Tin Shed” that has been central to youth sport and community activity since the 1950s. The club’s longevity makes it an important part of St Albans’ sporting heritage: It is one of the oldest martial arts institutions in the Brimbank area. Its connection to the Tin Shed links it to the broader history of youth sport, migration, and community building in St Albans. Its survival from the 1950s to today mirrors the suburb’s transformation from a semi‑rural outpost to a major multicultural centre.5880.01 - St. Albans Judo Club - Brothers Go For Gold.jpg Hamish and Clancy Freemantle 5880.02 - St. Albans Judo Club - St. Albans Pair Stars.jpg Wilby and Van Geli 5880.03 - St. Albans Judo Club - Champion Team.jpg Madeline Rooney, Sasha Sommeling, Liam San Jose, Tynneka Vangeli, Gina Vangeli, Bridget Sommeling 5880.04 - St. Albans Judo Club - Judo Gold.jpg Tynneka Vangeli, Clancy Freeman, Madeline Rooney 5880.05 - St. Albans Judo Club - Team Wins Judo Kudos.jpg Madeline Rooney, Sasha Sommeling, Liam San Jose, Tynneka Vangeli 5880.06 - St. Albans Judo Club - Judo 1994.jpg 5880.07 - St. Albans Judo Club - Judo At The Tin Shed.jpg 5880.08 - St. Albans Tin Shed - Tin Shed Judo.jpg 5880.09 - St. Albans Tin Shed - Tin Shed Judo.jpgst. albans judo club, st. albans tin shed, main road east, st. albans, st. albans community youth club -
