The "Gold Krone" ("Gold Crown") cut-throat razor was a brand name used by German manufacturer EKS (a common marking found on these razors), produced in the famous blade-making city of Solingen, Germany. The name "Gold Krone" (German for "Gold Crown") served as a brand name or a specific model designation. Another related and commonly seen brand is "Krone & Schwert Solingen" ("Crown & Sword Solingen"). These razors are recognized as vintage items, often dating back to the early-to-mid 20th century. As with many vintage razors, their value often lies in their craftsmanship and historical significance. Traditional straight razors need regular maintenance, including stropping before each use and occasional honing to keep the edge sharp. Shaving with a cut-throat razor requires practice and a specific technique to achieve a close shave without irritation. A vintage Gold steel Krone 1400 Bonsa Cut Throat Shaving Razor with a tortoiseshell type plastic handle with a diamond shape symbol in gold lettering with EKS in the middle and a crown on the top. On the blade in a gold diamond shape is engraved Gold Krone EKS. Trade Mark Solingen Germany and leaves are engraved at the edges of the blade. It also has engraved 1400 Bonsa Solingen on the section near the handle.The blade folds back into the handle to protect it. On the back of the blade is engraved Gold Krone EKS with a crown above the diamond. There is no storage case. On the tortoiseshell plastic handle is a 'diamond shape symbol in gold lettering with EKS in the middle and a crown on the top'. On the blade in a 'gold diamond shape is engraved Gold Krone EKS. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The Diggers in the lower right-hand corner of the photograph are clearing an area between a large rock crevice to construct their fortified bunker. The 'Horseshoe Feature' was regularly mortared and rocketed by the NVA/VietCong. Cream nylon (?) ribbon, 1.5 cm wide, wrapped around a flexible (possibly cardboard) horseshoe shape eleven cm long X 10 cm wide. A "stem" of cream rosebuds, studded with four teardrop shaped pearls, is stitched to the face of the horseshoe. A loop of the ribbon, 47.5 cm long, is attached for the bride's arm. Bethanga was established as a result of the discovery of gold. Gold was first reported in the Bethanga area in 1852. Before 1876 gold mining in the Bethanga district occurred to the north of the town and was known as the 'Talgarno diggings'. Reports of alluvial gold date back to 1852. Early gold fields were worked at Ruby Creek, Gold Creek and Jarvis Creek. The opening of the Bethanga goldfields began with the discovery of a gold-bearing quartz reef on New Year’s Day 1876. The 'Gift' mine site is located southeast of Kurrajong Gap lookout to the west of Bethanga township. The Great Eastern Copper Smelting Works was opened in 1878. Due to the nature of the gold-bearing quartz reef, the gold was difficult to extract, and the discovery of copper led to a change in focus. It was not until the early 1890s that an efficient technique for extracting the gold from the ore was discovered, and once again gold became the focus, with copper as a by-product. Gold was discovered in Victoria c1850 and people came from all over the world to seek their fortune at Ballarat and Bendigo and surrounding gold fields. This large wooden rocking- box or cradle was used by gold prospectors. A handle on the rocker is pushed back and forth, as the miner put gravel into the top part and finer and heavier particles dropped through a screen, helped along by buckets of water. The bottom part of the device had slats, that caught the heavier metals. After many shovel loads of gravel were pushed through the rocker, the miner would then use his gold pan to sort out the heavy minerals to find gold. Most of the pioneer settlers in Moorabbin Shire left the area to try their luck at gold mining and there was a desperate shortage of workers to maintain the market gardens and supply food to the ever increasing population of Melbourne.This gold prospector's 'cradle' is hand made and typical of those used by many hopeful Moorabbin Shire pioneers as they abandoned their market gardens to try their luck at finding gold in the Ballarat and Bendigo minefields c1850This gold miner's rocker is very old, and very well-used.
