The photograph shows VR tram 36 at St Kilda Railway Station with the driver in summer jacket raising the rear trolley pole. The tram displays destination Vautier St, an intermediate terminus about three kms from the station. VR tram 29 is also arriving at the terminus with weather blinds and saloon sunshades raised to shunt over tram 36. Its destination sign is indistinct but appears to be Middle Brighton or Brighton Beach. This movement of multiple shunting was common in the afternoon peak. Up to three trams would depart simultaneously following the arrival of a busy electric train from the city. The first tram would travel limited express to Brighton Beach; the second tram also ran limited express to the intermediate terminus at Middle Brighton; the last tram stopped all stops to Vaitier St, then return to repeat the same run. Black and white photograph of two single truck trams (No. 26 being the rear tram nearest to the photographer) at the City terminus in Sturt St. at the intersection with Lydiard St. Robert Burns statue in the background. Both trams in the intermediate scheme of lights but no large white strip under the dash canopy lights. This places the photog as being taken during the early 1961's onwards. Photograph shows single truck VR tram 3 second fleet in Elwood Depot yard with trolley pole raised, weather blinds raised and destination Dickens St. The exterior of the tram appears to be in poor condition and it stands amid low grass with trees and a large building at the rear. The first copy printed on a light blue card provides departure times and some intermediate timings for the Toorak Cable Tramway operated by the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co. from both the Toorak Rd terminus and Queensberry St terminus in Swanston St. Shows the frequency of the service, provides details of fares and transfer points. Signed by H A Wilcox Secretary and dated Nov. 1911. See item 7357 for the crew running timetable.
