'In the Service of Mankind' is the mottos of the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps, and has stuck to that ideal for seventy years. The corps was born just after Federation, though Australian nurses had already served in the Boer War. Since then, whenever Australia has fought, the nurses have been there to treat the wounded. The Australian Army Nursing Service Reserve, the original title of the Corps, got underway in 1902 as a voluntary body supplying trained nurses in times of emergency. A regular event for the widows was a Christmas concert at the Melbourne Town Hall. Often the performers were the RAAF Central Band. Held in December each year. The photos from 1994 show President Woodward presenting flowers to Gwen Gunn, Vera Lang and Irene Noll. Usually the concert was the time the Widows Clubs presented Legacy with funds raised through their fundraising each year - in this case $16,200 - and the president acknowledges with flowers. The article mentions that over 1,200 widows came together for the concert, and the RAAF Central Band was conducted by Sq. Ldr. Photos of widows, legatees, President Millie and the Transport Minister riding in a tram that was decorated to promote Legacy in 1995. 1995 which was the 50th Anniversary of the end of World War II. Wording on the tram says: "This year - Australia remembers the Heroes of World War II / 50 years on / Legacy never forgets to care for the widows and children of those who fought for our freedom". It appeared in The Answer in June 1995 after the tram had been launched on May 2nd by President David Millie and Public Transport Minister, Mr Alan Brown. The ribbon was cut by Junior Legatees Kim Anderson and Peter Hazelager.
