Padre Oliver served aboard HMAS Australia 2 and visited several African ports including Aden and was a first hand witness to the battle of the Coral Sea in WW2. Moritz Cohn was one of three Danish brothers (with Julius and Jacob) that arrived in Bendigo in 1853. Cohn Brothers was a brand well-known in Bendigo from the gold rush days until the 1970s. Their first venture, on arriving at the goldfields, was a pub, the Criterion Hotel. that they sold after a year. The brothers turned their hands to making drinks rather than selling them. Initially, they focused on soft drinks, cider and raspberry vinegar, but by 1856 the Cohn Brothers brewery in Bendigo’s Victoria Street was producing ale and porter. Image (Photograph??) was taken by Johnstone, O’Shannessy & Co, founded in Melbourne in 1864 by Henry James Johnstone and Emily Florence Kate O'Shaugnessy, in their photographic business. Kate Hudson's highly patterned and decorative prints reflect her love of Australian birds and flowers from her immediate environment, as well as oriental art and her training in textile design. Her work is influenced by the Australian artist (printmaker) Margaret Preston and the vases depicted in her prints are based on the ceramic works of her husband Stephen Hudson. The wattle depicted is the Acacia Terminalis (Sunshine Wattle), a shrub or small tree that grows to six meters in height. Else Oertel and her daughter Else-Lore were interned in Camp 3A from 1940. Her husband was not interned as he was on a business trip to Germany when war broke out. This outfit was worn by Kate Dabb for her wedding to Alf Meyer on the 6th of June 1900 at the Maldon Wesleyan Church. Kate was the 3rd daughter of Samuel Dabb.This dress is in two parts, a bodice and a skirt. Made of cream satin, mostly machine sewn with some hand sewing. The bodice is finely worked with applique panels of scrolls, petals and leaves decorated with glass beads and sequins. The Feelix library was developed to help children who were blind or have low vision experience the connection with books via tactile objects. Each print book was hand selected, a clear Braille overlay placed on the pages, and items relating to the story were made or purchased and added to the kit. The kit (book and objects) was held inside a cardboard suitcase and sent through the mail in a bright orange, zippered plastic padded pouch with a carry strap. The Kangaroo Hoppet is Australia’s premier long distance cross country ski race, and a member of the Worldloppet series of international cross country ski events. The first race at Falls Creek was held in 1979 under the name of “Australian Birkebeiner”. It was a 21km race with about 80 participants organised by the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club of Mount Beauty. The course started and finished at Falls Creek Alpine Resort and took participants out into the Bogong High Plains. After running the event for 10 years, it was decided they should become part of the Worldloppet series of marathon ski races. Representatives from the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club and the Australian Ski Federation attended the Worldloppet Annual Meeting in Finland in June 1990 to put the case for the acceptance of an Australian event into the Worldloppet series. Before being admitted, they had to demonstrate that the Birkebeiner Club could run a world class event, so three months later in August 1990 a 42km event named the Australian International Ski Marathon was held at Falls Creek together with a 21km Birkebeiner race and a 7km event called the Birkebeiner Lite. The event was approved by delegates from USA, Norway and Austria, in 1991 Australia became the 12th member of Worldloppet, with the condition that there had to be a name change. After some late night discussion allegedly involving red wine from North East Victoria the main event became the 42km Kangaroo Hoppet, with the minor events being the 21km Australian Birkebeiner, and 7km Joey Hoppet. In the winter of 1991, the first Kangaroo Hoppet was held. It was a great success and has been a regular fixture on the international ski calendar ever since. It features the main 42km event as well as a 21km event and a 7km event. The Hoppet brings the Australian snowfields to an international audience. In 2007 the Men's Winner was Thomas Freimuth from Germany in a time of 1:46:57. The winner of the Women's event was Kate Calder of New Zealand in a time of 2:08:00. Samuel Henry McGowan 1844 - 1921 emigrated to Australia from Ireland in 1870. He was deeply involved with mining in Sandhurst / Bendigo including as manager South St. Mungo Gold Mining Company in July 1882, and the Old Chum Mining Company. He founded The South Energetic Company in August 1884. He founded Leech's Creek Gold Mining Company in July 1886, the Great Cornish Mining Company 1887[2] the Lord Hopetoun Gold Mining Company in February 1891, the North Moon Company June 1892, the Bendigo Golden Star Company August 1893, Corinella Consols Company September 1893, New North Prince of Wales Company, September 1893, North Albion Reef Gold Mining Company June 1898, and the Ashley Gold Mining Company August 1898. He was a councillor, Barkly Ward, City of Bendigo 1883–1901 and served as Mayor from 1886 - 1887 and 1899 - 1900 S.H. McGowan married Kate Goyne 1852 – 1930.
