See catalogue No 5374P for his service record.Analogue eight-day aircraft clock with square mounting and round face. Numbers 3, 6, 9 and 12 and hands are white in colour with a black background. A winding knob is located on the bottom left-hand corner. There are two threaded holes on opposite corners for attachment to the control panel of an aircraft. The original aircraft depicted was assigned to the US 5th Air Force, 49th Fighter Group, 9th fighter Squadron and flown by Lt. Reynold from May 1942 until early August 1942. The aircraft was nicknamed "Stardust". On 8th August 1942 this P40 was assigned to the Royal Australian Air Force as Kittyhawk A29-136 and assigned the code letter "N", retaining the "Stardust" nickname. Photo of Bluey Truscott. Squadron Leader Keith William (Bluey) Truscott was regarded as one of Australia’s most well known WW2 fighter pilot aces. He was born on the 17/5/1916 and died over Exmouth, Western Australia on 28/3/1943 in an Aircraft accident whilst on duty. He initially trained under the Commonwealth Empire Training Scheme In Canada at the beginning of WW2, and later on was posted to Number 452 Squadron England where he flew Spitfires over Europe. He was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross in 1941 for his Air action and bravery. In 1942 he was further awarded the DFC Bar for further outstanding Air action and bravery. He returned to Australia and commanded number 76 Squadron who undertook duties in Papua New Guinea, specifically Milne Bay. When with 76 Squadron they largely flew Kittyhawks. There is a club named after SQN LDR Truscott, called the Truscott Club, at Airforce Base Darwin. There is also a decommissioned WW2 Airfield in the Kimberley’s called after him ( Truscott Air Base). Truscott has more recently been called Mungalu-Truscott Air Base as it is now owned by the traditional people of the Wunambal Gaambera. The Airfield is now used for commercial and private flying and is heritage listed under the National Trust of Australia (W.A.) due to its historical significance relating to WW2 and the remaining artefacts that are still in place presently. Bluey Truscott was also a well known Australian Rules Football player prior to WW2 having played for Melbourne. The seven photographs shown above are part of an anonymous donation by a relative of the photographic collection of a former member of No. 3 Squadron RAAF 1939-1945. They cover the African, Sicily and Italian campaigns. The entire collection comprises 175 photographs. The collection has been divided into sets depicting various aspects of 3 Squadron operations. The above images are representative of this particular set of 39 photographs, featuring the various aircraft used by No. 3 Squadron, mainly the P40 Kittyhawk and variants. Kittyhawk Fighter. One of a collection of 25 model aircraft made by Brian Anthony DOWD The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground-attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. The British Commonwealth air forces used the name Kittyhawk for models equivalent to the P-40D and all later variants.The Kittyhawk was the main fighter used by the RAAF in World War II, in greater numbers than the Spitfire. Two RAAF squadrons serving with the Desert Air Force, No. 3 and No. 450 Squadrons, were the first Australian units to be assigned P-40s.
